Source: Dan Miller in for ‘Cacareco,’ Faces ‘Toquinho’ in Rio

Middleweight Dan Miller has agreed to square off against Rousimar Palhares at UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro, taking the place of Palhares’ original opponent, Alexandre “Cacareco” Ferreira.

Sherdog.com learned of the switch Wednesday from a source close to the fight; the reason for Ferreira’s withdrawal from the bout was not immediately clear.

Miller (Pictured, file photo) also served as a replacement in his most recent bout, a March decision loss to Nate Marquardt in which the 30-year-old New Jersey native took the place of Yoshihiro Akiyama on days’ notice. That defeat halted Miller’s momentum from back-to-back wins over Joe Doerksen and John Salter, the latter of which saw Miller fill in for Phil Baroni. A former International Fight League middleweight titleholder, Miller’s 13-5 record includes victories over Matt Horwich, Jake Rosholt and John Howard.

Leglock specialist Palhares, 31, has also competed once in 2011, submitting Dave Branch via second-round heel hook in March. The win put “Toquinho” back on track after his own loss to Marquardt, a September stoppage in which the Brazilian was punched out after complaining mid-fight that Marquardt’s leg was slippery. Palhares has notched nine of his 12 career wins via submission, including finishes of Daniel Acacio and Ivan Salaverry.

Headlined by a UFC middleweight title bout between champion Anderson Silva and top contender Yushin Okami, UFC 134 takes place Aug. 27 at Rio’s HSBC Arena.
