Shine Fights Signs ADCC Champion Estima

The Ohio-based Shine Fights promotion on Monday announced it had reached an exclusive agreement with Braulio Estima, one of the world’s premier submission grapplers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Estima -- who won the 88-kilogram and absolute divisions at the 2009 Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships -- has signed on the dotted line and expects to make his professional mixed martial arts debut at Shine Fights 3, tentatively scheduled for April.

The lead instructor at the Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Birmingham, England, Estima defeated grappling legend Marcelo Garcia, recent Strikeforce signee Andre Galvao and Sengoku veteran Alexandre “Xande” Ribeiro en route to his two tournament titles at the ADCC competition.

A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr., Estima’s accomplishments are many. They include titles at the 2004, 2006 and 2009 Confederation of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championships, the 2006 Absolute World Cup Championship and the 2006 and 2009 CBJJ European Absolute Championships. In addition, Estima was a silver medalist at the 2007 ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships.

Shine Fights held its most recent event in September, featuring UFC veterans Roan Carneiro, Yves Edwards and Junior Assuncao, among others. A match pitting former EliteXC middleweight champion Murilo “Ninja” Rua against Falaniko Vitale has already been announced for Shine Fights 3.
