Seven Bouts Official for UFC on Fox 2 in Chicago
Seven bouts are now set for the UFC's second effort on network TV,
as the promotion announced Tuesday five new contests for UFC on Fox
2.
In addition to the previously reported main and co-main events pitting Phil Davis against Rashad Evans and Chael Sonnen against Mark Munoz, the card now also sports a bantamweight collision between Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Wineland (Pictured), as well as a featherweight scrap featuring George Roop and Cub Swanson.
Additionally, the Jan. 28 event will showcase a pair of lightweight
fights pitting Paul Sass
against Evan Dunham
and Cody
McKenzie against Michael
Johnson.
Rounding out the UFC's inaugural trip to the United Center in Chicago will be a heavyweight face-off between grappling ace John Olav Einemo and Illinois native Mike Russow.
UFC on Fox 2 marks the promotion's first of four planned appearances on Fox's flagship network in 2012. In addition to the UFC on Fox broadcasts, the organization also plans to promote six live events on FX and reinvent “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show by televising live fights at the end of each episode.
The UFC made its Fox debut on Nov. 5, broadcasting a heavyweight championship fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos. The Brazilian snatched away Velasquez's title in just 64 seconds at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., landing a clubbing overhand right that dropped Velasquez to the canvas and spelled disaster for the reigning champion. The hour-long broadcast averaged 5.7 million viewers, peaking with 8.8 million viewers during the headlining title bout.
