Sergei Kharitonov Clobbers Kenny Garner in M-1 Challenge 59 Rematch

Sergei Kharitonov did not fool around this time.

The Pride Fighting Championships veteran dispatched former M-1 Global champion Kenny Garner with first-round punches in the M-1 Challenge 59 “Battle of Nomads 5” heavyweight headliner on Friday in Astana, Kazakhstan. American Top Team’s Garner (16-9) met his end 4:11 into round one, snapping a modest two-fight winning streak.

Kharitonov (23-5) -- who also won his first matchup with Garner on Nov. 25 -- remains one of the top heavyweights never to compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The 34-year-old Russian has rattled off five consecutive victories since his September 2011 submission loss to Josh Barnett under the Strikeforce banner. The only other defeats of his career have come to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Alistair Overeem, Aleksander Emelianenko and Jeff Monson.

In the welterweight co-main event, Shavkat Rakhmonov needed less than a minute to tap Michal Wiencek with a first-round guillotine choke. The 21-year-old Wiencek (5-3) asked out of the match 49 seconds into round one.

Rakhmonov (3-0) has ended all three of his fights inside one round.

Meanwhile, UFC castaway Luigi Fioravanti slowed the ascent of Sergey Kovalev, as he submitted the previously unbeaten Russian upstart with a second-round rear-naked choke in their featured confrontation at 185 pounds. Kovalev (6-1) conceded defeat 1:56 into round two.

The 34-year-old Fioravanti (26-13) has won 12 of his 20 bouts since being jettisoned by the UFC following a 2009 loss to Anthony Johnson.

Elsewhere, undefeated Kazakh Sergey Morozov disposed of Andy Young with a second-round spinning backfist and follow-up punches in their bantamweight showcase. A Cage Warriors Fighting Championship vet, Young (6-7) succumbed to blows 3:50 into round two.

Morozov (4-0) has finished all four of his professional opponents.

In other action, Zaur Gadzhibabayev (4-1) struck David Trallero (2-4) into submission 4:37 into the first round of their heavyweight tilt; Rashid Dagaev (3-1) claimed a unanimous decision from KSW veteran Daniel Tabera (18-8-3) in their three-round welterweight scrap; Ring of Combat alum Nodar Kudukhashvili (10-1) earned a unanimous decision over Aleksander Boyko (14-10) in their three-round encounter at 185 pounds; Damir Ismagulov (3-1) wiped out Pedro Eugenio Granjo (0-1) with punches 2:53 into the first round of their lightweight battle; Batraz Agaev (2-0) took care of Anton Pazenko (2-1) with punches 3:00 into round one of their clash at 205 pounds; and Artem Frolov (4-0) submitted Inzhel Erkimbek (0-1) with a triangle choke 75 seconds into the first round of their middleweight pairing.
