Ronda Rousey’s Plan: Beat Correia, Beat Tate (Again), Film Movie, Beat ‘Next Chick’

As is often the case with dominant champions, people are already taking it as a given that Ronda Rousey will be victorious at UFC 190.

The first and only UFC women’s bantamweight champion opened as a -1500 favorite against Bethe Correia when the fight was announced in March, and some bookmakers have widened the odds even further since then. Last weekend, when Miesha Tate secured the rights to the next title shot, discussion amongst fans and pundits was of a third meeting between Tate and Rousey, with little talk of a potential bout with Correia.

Even the ever-focused Rousey, who will return to acting this fall in the film “Mile 22,” seems to have plans lined up for life after Correia. During a media conference call on Monday, the 28-year-old champ laid out her tentative schedule for the remainder of 2015.

“I’m gonna beat up Bethe, then I’m gonna take a couple weeks to rest, and then I’m gonna go beat up Miesha, and then I’m gonna go to Thailand or wherever we decide to film,” said Rousey. “I’m gonna prep for, like, a month, then start filming for eight to 10 weeks, and then go beat up the next chick. That’s pretty much my plan.”

Though pegged as a massive underdog, Correia will enter the fight with an unblemished 9-0 record which includes wins over the likes of Julie Kedzie and Rousey training partner Shayna Baszler. Rousey explained her advantage over the Brazilian challenger, and it has everything to do with the “Rowdy” one’s extensive career as a world-class judoka.

“How many fights does Bethe really have? Under 10? In her whole life, in any sport? I’ve had thousands and thousands and thousands of matches,” Rousey said before recounting numerous instances where she competed while injured or ill. “I’ve been in every single situation that you could possibly think of.

“After two Olympics, I’ve been doing this for so long. It’s not like I walked into a gym one day and my boyfriend was a fighter and I decided to give it a try. This is, like, my whole life.”

Rousey also welcomed the idea of a third fight against Tate, though she told reporters that she had not yet seen Tate’s victory over Jessica Eye at UFC on Fox 16. While some have questioned the necessity of Rousey-Tate 3 due to the champion’s decisive wins in their previous meetings, Rousey stated that she is down for the fight as long as fans want to see it.

“I’m interested in defending my title as many times as I need to before I feel like I’m done,” Rousey explained. “If she’s the best competitor and she’s who the fans want to see, then, yeah, I’m extremely interested in doing it. I’m an entertainer. I’m not just here for myself.

“I need these other girls. It’s not like I could do this by myself. I need a dancing partner. The analogy I use a lot is, like, these girls are like plants. Sometimes you can grow a crop and you can harvest it year after year, like Miesha. Sometimes, you harvest it once and it’ll never grow back. I don’t think Bethe will ever come back after this. I think this might be the final season that I can harvest the Tate crop.”

While much has been made of Rousey being the most dominant champion on the UFC roster, the recent rash of injuries and title fight cancellations have the Californian eyeing another label.

“I want to be the most reliable champion in the company,” said Rousey. “It’s not that I’ve never had an injury for a fight, but I’ve never pulled out because of one, and whenever they’ve called me, I’ve always showed up when I was needed.”

As challenges and challengers for Rousey inside the Octagon begin to dwindle, the champ has begun to set lofty goals for her Hollywood career. On Monday, she described one such objective.

“I wanna be the first person ever to be able to do a fight scene, a car chase and a high jump in one long shot, with no stunt doubles or anybody else doing it.”
