Ronda Rousey Opens as Slight Favorite in Potential Rematch with Holly Holm

Although Holly Holm was utterly dominant in dispatching Ronda Rousey in the UFC 193 headliner, oddsmakers see “Rowdy” as the early favorite heading into a potential rematch.

According to Bovada.lv, Rousey opened as the favorite at -175, while Holm is listed at +175. Those odds are far closer than their first showdown, when Holm closed as high as a +700 underdog in some places and cost the Las Vegas sports books a significant amount of money.

“It is no secret that Rousey losing over the weekend was bad for the book, but for us was devastating,” Kevin Bradley, Sports Book Manager at Bovada.lv said. “With Holm as high as 9-1 earlier in the week and closing at just over 5-1, we got slammed at every price making it our worst MMA result of all time and essentially wiping out what would have been a good NFL Sunday. For comparison sake, Pacquaio beating De La Hoya when he was an underdog was our worst boxing loss ever and the losses for the Rousey fight were triple that. ”

At the conclusion of Saturday’s event in Melbourne, UFC President Dana White said that an immediate rematch between Holm and Rousey “makes a lot of sense.” However, even before UFC 193, Rousey hinted that she would take an extended break to focus on her movie career before returning to the Octagon. While nothing is concrete, many are targeting UFC 200 in July as the ideal spot for a second date between the two bantamweights.

If the rematch does indeed take place, it appears that opportunistic bettors won’t be able to cash in on Holm as easily the second time around.
