Ronda Rousey: ‘Hollywood Wouldn’t Be Interested in Me at all if it Wasn’t for Fighting’

Ronda Rousey is still riding high following her 16-second victory over Alexis Davis at UFC 175.

With no fight currently scheduled due to lingering hand and knee injuries, the UFC women’s bantamweight champion is making the media rounds prior to her silver screen debut in “The Expendables 3.”

During a Tuesday appearance on “SportsNation,” Rousey was asked a question that strikes fear into those who worry the allure of Hollywood could eventually pull “Rowdy” away from the Octagon in favor of an acting career. Her response will allow UFC President Dana White and those worried about such a career move sleep easier at night.

When asked to choose between a career in mixed martial arts or acting, Rousey chose what got her to this point to begin with.

“Hollywood wouldn’t be interested in me at all if it wasn’t for fighting,” Rousey said. “[I] have to go with what got me to this point.”

With her next fight up in the air, Rousey was asked who she would like to fight if she were able to pick her next opponent. While she did hone in on one opponent in particular, all three of her suggestions would likely whet the appetite of MMA fans and pundits alike if they came to fruition.

“Well, I would love to fight Gina Carano next. The UFC just also signed Holly Holm, and Cat Zingano was next in line before suffering an injury,” Rousey told ESPN. “I’m really looking forward to competing against them.”

Rousey has run through her competition to the point where it has caused some to question how she would fare against a member of the opposite sex. While Rousey refuses to admit she would be unsuccessful in beating a man at an MMA fight, she also doesn’t think the whole idea would be good for a sport still in its infancy in the public eye like MMA.

“Honestly, I don’t think it would be a very good idea because MMA is still just starting to be accepted in general culture. Anything can happen in a fight. It’s controlled chaos,” Rousey said. “Although I believe I can beat anyone in the world, anything can happen in a fight as well, which is why I prepare so much. But the image of a man beating up on a woman on TV is not good for the sport.”
