A lingering hand injury has forced unbeaten bantamweight Aljamain Sterling out of his scheduled meeting with Mitch Gagnon at UFC Fight Night “MacDonald vs. Saffiedine.”

UFC officials Monday announced that Rob Font will take Sterling’s place and meet Gagnon on Oct. 4 at Halifax Metro Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The matchup is expected to be part of the Fox Sports 1-broadcast main card, which is topped by a welterweight duel between Rory MacDonald and Tarec Saffiedine.

Font, 27, made a strong impression in his July promotional debut, knocking out George Roop in the first round of their UFC 175 bout. The fight also served as the bantamweight debut of the Florida native, who previously held the featherweight title of New England-based organization Classic Entertainment and Sports.

Since suffering a setback in his first Octagon appearance, Gagnon has reeled off three straight wins, including two by way of submission. The 29-year-old Canadian most recently earned a unanimous decision against Tim Gorman in April.
