Report: World Series of Fighting Cancels Next Two Events to Focus on Dec. 31 NYC Card

In an effort to focus on its Dec. 31 fight card at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, World Series of Fighting has canceled its next two scheduled shows.

MMAMania.com was the first to report the story on Monday.

The promotion was scheduled to stage WSOF 34 on Nov. 12 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colo., headlined by welterweight champion Jon Fitch defending against fellow former UFC title challenger Jake Shields. WSOF 35 was slated for three weeks later at the Xfinity Arena in Everett, Wash.

Both cards will now be nixed and according to the MMAMania report, the Fitch-Shields fight, as well as others in the works for the two respective cards will be added to the Dec. 31 bill.

World Series of Fighting's effort figures to be the third notable MMA card since the regulation of the sport in the state of New York. On Oct. 14, Combate Americas promoted its “Empire Rising” bill in Verona, N.Y., while the Ultimate Fighting Championship will stage its landmark UFC 205 card on Nov. 12 at Madison Square Garden, headlined by UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez defending against featherweight champion Conor McGregor.
