Report: UFC to Hold Event at 50,000-Seat Stadium in Brazil on Oct. 25

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is set to stage an event in Brazil on Oct. 25, according to a report from Globo.com this week.

The report stems from comments made by Mario Celso Petraglia, chairman of Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A soccer team Atletico Paranaense, following annual club meetings, where he revealed the tentative plans.

The event would reportedly take place at Joaquim Americo Guimaraes Stadium, commonly known as Arena da Baixada, in Curitiba, Brazil. While UFC officials have yet to confirm the event, Petraglia stated that an announcement is imminent. The arena has a capacity of 43,981, but with added floor seating on the grass, Petraglia said the stadium could house in excess of 50,000 fans.

UFC President Dana White has publicly expressed his interest in holding events inside stadiums but has remained cautious due to the unpredictability of weather. Arena da Baixada is set to receive a retractable roof by October, thus making it an attractive venue for an MMA event.
