Report: Kimbo Slice Died Awaiting Heart Transplant
Bellator MMA star and former YouTube sensation Kimbo Slice was awaiting a heart transplant before he died on Monday at age 42, according to a report from the Sun Sentinel.
Slice was admitted to the Northwest Medical Center in Margate, Fla., on June 3 complaining of severe abdominal pain, shortness of breath and nausea, according to information obtained from the Broward County medical examiner’s office by the Sun Sentinel.
The fighter was reportedly found to have a liver mass and congestive heart failure and was placed on a ventilator in intensive care. Before he died on Monday at 7:30 p.m. ET, medical personnel were preparing to transport Slice to a facility in Cleveland where he could be placed on an organ donor list.
The report also determined that Slice’s death was not a result of drug use, trauma or foul play.
Slice was scheduled to headline Bellator 158 against James Thompson in London on July 16, but Mike Thomas Brown, his coach at American Top Team, said that the fighter had not been feeling well in recent weeks and had been advised to pull out of the bout.
