Anderson Silva was hospitalized on Monday but is still expected to compete at UFC 183, according to a report from Brazilian outlet Combate.

Following jiu-jitsu training at the X-Gym in Rio de Janeiro, “The Spider” felt severe back pain while trying to stand and fell to the ground. He cried out in pain and briefly lost feeling in his legs, according to the report. Silva was then transported to a hospital, where he was evaluated by an orthopedic specialist and received an MRI, CT scans and blood tests.

Silva was diagnosed with pain in the lower lumbar region of his back and released from the hospital on Tuesday. The Brazilian reportedly has a history of back problems but is likely to resume training in a few days.

Dr. Marcio Tannure, medical director of the Brazilian Athletic Commission, said the temporary loss of feeling is normal for someone experiencing lower back pain.

“It really was a shock. He felt a sharp pain because of the contracture,” Tannure told Combate. “It hurts a lot, really, but it will not change anything in terms of training. The problem he had [explains] the pain, but it will not result in a withdrawal or cancellation of the fight.”

The 39-year-old Silva is set to headline UFC 183 on Jan. 31, when he squares off with Nick Diaz in Las Vegas. It will be the first fight for the ex-middleweight king since gruesomely breaking his leg against Chris Weidman at UFC 168 in December 2013. It was recently announced that Silva will coach opposite Mauricio Rua on Season 4 of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil.”
