Abdul Razak Alhassan fought at UFC 228 while facing sexual assault charges for an alleged rape of two women, according to a report from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Alhassan was freed on $20,000 bond since his arrest in April, and his attorney, Daniel Hagood, filed a successful motion in May that allowed the UFC welterweight to travel outside Tarrant County because he “has achieved notable success in the MMA fighting realm and has come to depend on his MMA career as his main source of income.” The motion was granted and allowed him to remove his GPS monitor for fights and training when outside of Tarrant County.

As a result, Alhassan was able to compete at UFC 228 in Dallas on Sept. 8, scoring a 43-second knockout of Niko Price for his third consecutive triumph in the Las Vegas-based promotion. Court records indicate that Alhassan was indicted by a Tarrant County grand jury on Monday.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the 33-year-old Alhassan was working as a bouncer at the Forth Worth bar Varsity Tavern when he drove home two intoxicated women and raped both of them inside of one of their homes in March. The women, ages 22 and 20, were allowed by Alhassan to enter the club through the VIP entrance, but only if the 22-year-old gave the fighter her phone number. She agreed, and they were allowed to enter. The women were at the club to celebrate the birthday of a Fort Worth police officer who sometimes worked security at the establishment.

The younger woman told investigators that they then went into the bar and proceeded to consume a large amount of alcohol. The 20-year old said she later found her friend making out with Alhassan in a utility closet on the second floor of the club. The younger woman said her friend “appeared to be wasted and did not know what was going on,” according to the affidavit obtained by the Star-Telegram.

Alhassan later drove the two women to the 20-year-old’s Saginaw home. “She [the 20-year-old] said the defendant laid [the first woman] on the bed and she believed the defendant had left the residence,” the affidavit states. “She said she went into the kitchen to get a drink and when she returned the defendant was standing in the corner of her bedroom.”

Alhassan then grabbed the 20-year-old woman from behind, shoved her face first into the bed and raped her, according to the affidavit. The fighter then moved to the 22-year-old woman, removed her panties and raped her. The younger woman said she didn’t attempt to help her friend because “she was still out of it and was trying to piece together what was going on as it was occurring.”

Later, the 20-year-old woke up her mother to tell her that something was wrong with her friend, who was vomiting and partially undressed. The mother found a used condom on top of her daughter’s friends purse and placed the condom and the friend’s panties in a plastic bag and turned them over to authorities, according to the report.

Forth Worth police interviewed the 22-year-old alleged victim on March 24 at John Smith Peter Hospital on March 24 and were called back to interview the 20-year-old the following day. The 20-year-old’s mother told investigators that her daughter began to remember more details of the alleged assault after she became sober.

The police officer who was celebrating his birthday that night told a Fort Worth detective that he danced with one of the victims earlier in the night before losing sight of both women until closing time when they called him. The officer said Alhassan told him that he took the victims to their car.

“He said the defendant told him her friend took care of them from there,” according to the affidavit.

Jesse Fonseca, general manager of the Varsity Tavern said that Alhassan quit as a bouncer months ago due to some personal issues.

Alhassan has been competing professionally in MMA since 2013. He owns a 10-1 record overall and is 4-1 in the UFC, with all of his career victories coming by knockout or technical knockout.
