Released by UFC, Miguel Torres Signs with Titan Fighting Championship for Nov. 2 Debut

Miguel Torres has been released from his UFC contract and will compete Nov. 2 for Kansas-based promotion Titan Fighting Championship.

The bantamweight announced the news on his official website Tuesday night but did not name an opponent for his Titan FC debut. The Nov. 2 show takes place in Hammond, Ind., where Torres owns and operates his own MMA gym. Titan FC officials could not be immediately reached for comment.

“I am excited to continue fighting, to regain my focus and to get back to what made me a champion,” Torres wrote. “I have dedicated my whole life to mixed martial arts and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. From teaching, to training and fighting -- from the lowest to the highest levels -- my passion in life is to be the best that I can be.”

Torres, 31, rose to prominence in 2008 when he captured the World Extreme Cagefighting bantamweight crown by choking out Chase Beebe at WEC 32. Three successful title defenses would follow for the Hoosier, who topped challengers Yoshiro Maeda, Manny Tapia and Takeya Mizugaki before losing his belt via first-round knockout to Brian Bowles in 2009.

Torres would stumble in his next bout as well, submitting to a Joseph Benavidez guillotine choke later that year. Following the defeat, Torres began training at the Tristar Gym in Montreal. Back-to-back wins over Charlie Valencia and Antonio Banuelos would follow, as bantamweight made the transition from the WEC to the UFC.

Two losses in three fights would then follow for Torres, who dropped a controversial unanimous decision to future title challenger Demetrious Johnson before outpointing a game but overmatched Nick Pace. Most recently, Torres was knocked cold by heavy-handed prospect Michael McDonald, falling to the Californian at UFC 145 this past April.
