Ratings Report: UFC on FX 5 Nets 1.1 Million Viewers, Bellator 75 Attracts 145,000 on MTV2

The Ultimate Fighting Championship and Bellator Fighting Championships once again went head-to-head Friday night, with UFC on FX 5 and Bellator 75 averaging 1.1 million and 145,000 viewers, respectively.

Sherdog.com confirmed the figures Tuesday with an industry source. Headlined by a heavyweight showdown between ex-Strikeforce talent Antonio Silva and Hawaiian prospect Travis Browne, UFC on FX 5 took place at the Target Center in Minneapolis. Silva earned a first-round technical knockout over Browne, who tore his hamstring midway through round one while throwing an overhand right.

The 1.1 million viewers averaged by the FX network’s main card broadcast marks a slight downturn for the series, as UFC on FX 4 earned 1.3 million viewers back in June. Also of note, just 44,000 people tuned in to catch Friday night’s preliminary card telecast on Fuel TV.

Bellator’s 145,000 observers also represent a decrease for the Viacom-owned organization, as last week’s Bellator 74 pulled 190,000 viewers to kick of the promotion’s seventh season. Bellator 75 took place at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind., and showcased the quarterfinals of the Season 7 heavyweight tournament.

The MTV2-broadcast main card saw a headlining rematch between Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos end unceremoniously, as Prindle was disqualified for axe-kicking a downed Santos in the groin. Santos had previously punted a downed Prindle between the legs last year in the Season 5 heavyweight tournament final, though that bout was ruled a no-contest. Alexander Volkov, Richard Hale and Vinicius Kappke de Queiroz also advanced in the Season 7 heavyweight draw.
