Rashad Evans Sidelined 6-7 Months Following Second Knee Surgery

Rashad Evans’ return to the Octagon will be delayed approximately six to seven months after the UFC light heavyweight was forced to undergo a second surgery on his ACL.

According to a report on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight, Evans learned in December that his knee rejected the cadaver tissue inserted during an initial surgery performed last year. As a result, the Blackzilians representative underwent a second procedure that will keep him sidelined at least until the second half of 2015.

Evans was scheduled to face Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night in Brazil on Feb. 22. However, after Teixeira withdrew from the headlining contest, Evans elected to have a second corrective surgery. “Suga” heard the knee pop during training just before Christmas, but he was planning to fight Teixeira anyway before the Brazilian withdrew.

Evans originally tore his ACL prior to a proposed bout against Daniel Cormier at UFC 170 in February 2013. The 35-year-old last competed at UFC 167, where he stopped Chael Sonnen via technical knockout 4:05 into the opening frame.
