RFA 31 Medical Suspensions: Marunde, Frausto, Velickovic Facing 6-Month Layoffs

Four fighters from RFA 31 -- including headliner Bristol Marunde -- could be sidelined for six months due to injuries sustained at the Oct. 9 event in Las Vegas.

The Nevada Athletic Commission on Tuesday released to Sherdog.com its list of medical suspensions from the show, which took place outdoors at Downtown Las Vegas Events Center.

Marunde suffered a broken jaw in a failed bid to take the Resurrection Fighting Alliance welterweight title from Gilbert Smith, whose punches caused the injury two minutes into round four. Marunde must have his jaw cleared by a doctor or else sit out until April 9. Smith, who suffered “nausea and dizziness” after the bout, was suspended until Nov. 24.

Zoila Frausto, who was defeated via unanimous decision by Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger in the co-main event, will also be out until April 9 unless her right orbital fracture is cleared by an ophthalmologist. Frausto missed weight for the bout and was roughed up for 25 minutes by Jones-Lybarger , suffering “multiple head blows” and severe swelling on her face.

Also facing six months on the shelf is winning welterweight Bojan Velickovic (possible right orbital fracture) and undercard bantamweight David Arcangel (left knee injury).

Gilbert Smith: Suspended until Nov. 24. No contact until Nov. 9. Nausea and dizziness after bout.

Bristol Marunde: Must have broken jaw cleared by doctor or no contest until April 9, 2016. Minimum suspension no contest until Nov. 24. No contact until Nov. 9.

Zoila Frausto: Must have right orbital fracture cleared by ophthalmologist/ENT doctor or no contest until April 9, 2016. Minimum suspension no contest until Nov. 24. No contact until Nov. 9. Multiple head blows.

Bojan Velickovic: Must have possible right orbital fracture cleared by ophthalmologist/ENT doctor or no contest until April 9, 2016. Minimum suspension no contest until Oct. 31. No contact until Oct. 24.

David Arcangel: Must have left knee cleared by doctor or no contest until April 9, 2016. Minimum suspension no contest until Nov. 24. No contact until Nov. 9.
