Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Glover Teixeira Set for Light Heavyweight Showdown at UFC 153

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will take on heavy-handed up-and-comer Glover Teixeira this fall at UFC 153 in what will likely be Jackson’s final Octagon appearance.

The 205-pound matchup is set to take place Oct. 13 at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, UFC officials Monday confirmed to Brazilian outlet SporTV.com. According to the report, the bout could serve as co-main event on the card, which is currently without a headliner.

Jackson, 34, has publicly stated that he plans to exit the UFC after fulfilling the final remaining fight on his current contract. The Memphis native has lost back-to-back outings, having been stopped by Jon Jones in a failed September title bid and outpointed by Ryan Bader in his February return. Although UFC President Dana White declared in March that Jackson would face former rival Mauricio Rua in his final UFC bout, that fight was scrapped when Jackson underwent knee surgery later that month.

Currently riding one of the most impressive winning streaks in MMA, 32-year-old Teixeira made his long-awaited UFC debut in May, submitting Kyle Kingsbury in less than two minutes at UFC 146. The win was Teixeira’s 16th in a row, a streak which stretches back to 2006 and includes victories against Ricco Rodriguez, Marvin Eastman and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou. In 20 career starts, the Marco Ruas pupil has gone the distance only three times.

UFC 153 marks the UFC’s third visit to HSBC Arena, following August 2011’s UFC 134 “Silva vs. Okami” and January’s UFC 142 “Aldo vs. Mendes.”
