Errol Spence Jr. vs. Phil Lo Greco

Round 1

They come out cautiously to start the fight. Spence tosses a jab to the body from his southpaw stance but Lo Greco digs a flurry to the body in return. Spence is waiting for an opening to present itself and then lands a straight left to the gut. Spence comes in with a left, but he walks into a short right hand. He takes it well and pops off a jab/left to the body. Lo Greco is trying to make it a brawl late in the round, but Spence is denying him. Spence tags him with a short right hand to the head, but it’s mostly blocked. Lo Greco charges in and ties up Spence at the bell. Close round of little action.

Round 2

Spence is a tad busier early, landing two right hands to the head. Lo Greco dugs under a left cross and digs two hooks to the ribs but Spence counters that with a nice left to the head. Nice right the head by Spence, followed by a hard left to the body and then a left to the jaw. Lo Greco felt that one and backs up. Spence returns to the body with a right hook, a punch that Lo Greco clearly isn’t a fan of. Lo Greco leans in to brawl with him, but Errol snaps his head back with a beautiful right uppercut. Lo Greco paws out a few jabs and absorbs another left to the body. It’s all Spence in this one.

Round 3

Lo Greco charges right at his foe, but Spence makes him pay with a right to the ribs. Lo Greco has decided that he has to go forehead-to-forehead with him, but he is instantly dropped onto his face courtesy of a brilliant right behind the ear. He is up and in serious danger, but he continues to come right at Spence. Errol pours it on, unloading a cornucopia of rights and lefts upstairs and to the body. Lo Greco is wobbly but he won’t stop coming forward. He’s trying to clinch, but Spence keeps his distance, picking him apart with every punch. Lo Greco is rocked by another right hand and backs into the ropes. Spence clubs away until Robert Byrd has seen enough and waives it off.

Adrien Broner vs. Shawn Porter

Round 1

Tony Weeks is our referee for this 144-pound catchweight main event. They storm out of their corner and meet in the center of the ring but resist throwing for several moments. Broner fires off a quick overhand right but it’s mostly blocked. Porter is backing away, looking for the chance to unload. Porter jabs twice to the body but he seems tentative. Porter cracks him with a right to the body and then a left to the head, and then chases Broner into the ropes, where they clinch. Porter jabs to the body with a minute left. Broner throws two jabs and then misses with a right hand. Broner lands a decent right hand as Porter comes in near the bell.

Round 2

They paw with their jabs early until Broner lands a glancing left hook. They clinch quickly. When Porter misses with a right hand, they clinch again and it’s starting to get a little ugly on the inside. Porter fires off a right hand and then is grabbed by Broner; they maul and grapple until Weeks separates them. Broner ducks under a right cross and clinches again. Broner doesn’t seem too eager to exchange blows at all with a minute left. Nice overhand right by Porter, his best punch of the fight. Porter charges after his nemesis and pins him into the ropes and flails away. Broner, again, clinches him. Broner comes alive with five seconds left, trying to steal the round. They swing wildly but miss everything at the bell.

Round 3

Porter comes right after Broner as soon as the round starts; Broner is bouncing away on his bike. Broner clinches as soon as Porter gets close. They grapple again and the crowd begins to boo already. Porter walks into a stiff jab as he misses a right hand. Porter leaps in with a sweeping left hook but it’s mostly blocked. Again, they clinch. Broner counters a right hand with a left hook but it’s a glancing blow. Porter continues to try and get inside and make it a war, but Broner won’t have any of it. Porter swarms him again and again, but Broner’s defense is superb. They brawl in a clinch at the bell. Another very close round.

Round 4

Porter flicks out the jab a few times before Broner lands a meager right had before clinching. Porter leaps in with a massive overhand right and it lands, albeit glancingly. He stumbles down after they tangle up their feet, and Weeks rules it a slip. Good call. Porter chases after him with a furious barrage but Broner defends and clinches to avoid it. Nice stiff jab to the belly by Porter midway through. Broner cracks him with the left as Porter rushes in, but Shawn flails away until a clinch, where Broner shoves his forearm into his face. Weeks sternly warns him and then they continue. Porter traps his rival in to the ropes and plugs away to the head and body. Most of his shots are blocked, but Broner is offering nothing in return.

Round 5

Nice jab/left hook by Broner right away, but Porter is unfazed. Porter is backed into his corner and when he tries to unload a flurry, he walks into a counter left hook. Broner backs away to reset but “Showtime” is all over him. Porter jabs to the body twice but his follow-up overhand right misses by a mile. Porter nails him with a leaping jab but his right hand can’t follow up. Porter walks into a right uppercut on his way in and proceeds to chop into Broner’s body relentlessly. Porter is literally running after Broner, who is retreating away from the attrition. Broner’s defense holds up well as most of Porter’s attacks are either blocked or miss wildly. Very close round.

Round 6

Porter comes right after him again, but his wild punches are mostly blocked. Nice left hand by Porter that snaps the Problem’s head back. Shawn is relentless as always, but Broner’s movement prevents him from landing many clean shots. Broner clinches after he is jabbed and then talks trash into his ear. Every time Porter gets inside, Broner grabs on and mauls him. Broner mauls back, of course, but Broner is mostly instigating the clinches. Porter digs a right to the body but he eats a left hand for good measure. They clinch again and Weeks warns Broner for excessive holding. Beautiful jab by Porter with 20 seconds left. Broner misses with a powerful right/left at the bell.

Round 7

Broner cracks the Akron native with a sweet right hand early in the round. Porter is unfazed and tries to get inside. Porter comes in low but has to take a left hook to the head. Porter traps Broner into the ropes and tears into his body until Broner escapes out to his left. They clinch again. Porter misses with a left hand and is tagged by a right uppercut. They clinch and then Broner hits him in the back of the head. Weeks warns him harshly for the infraction but doesn’t take a point. Broner eats a jab and then is forced to cover up from the barrage of punches to the head and body. Porter is able to land a clean jab but he can’t follow up with anything due to Broner’s defense.

Round 8

As usual, Porter charges in and tries to mug him. He lands a nice jab/right hand, but Broner walks through it and clinches. Porter slugs away at the head, but several shots rattle off the Cincinnati fighter’s ribs. Nice right hand by Broner as Porter wildly comes in and they exchange a nice volley of punches. Porter takes a left hook to the knee but Weeks doesn’t see it. Porter swings away but Broner covers up. Nice left hook to the body from Porter and then a right. Porter is in his face again and again, but Broner blocks most of them.

Round 9

Nice stiff jab by Porter early in the frame. Porter isn’t as reckless early, but he does connect with a decent left hook to the head. Porter darts inside with a left but Broner clinches. Porter finally gets Broner along the ropes and plugs away at the body. They clinch again and Broner shoves him away. Weeks again does not take a point and the crowd explodes in anger. Broner backs away but Porter is relentless, attacking the head and body. Adrien blocks most of them and clinches. Porter literally runs after his foe again but once he gets him into the ropes, Broner ties him up. Broner is on his bike quite a bit this round, all the while Porter swings and lunges at the body.

Round 10

Porter isn’t uber aggressive to start the round and instead stands there, jabbing at a distance Nice right hand by Porter sends Broner into retreat mode, his best punch in several rounds. Broner has his guard up high as Porter stands there. Broner comes in but Porter reverses him and forces him into the corner. Porter slams two shots to the body before Broner escapes. Porter gets inside and tries to force Broner into another slugfest and is able to crush a few good uppercuts into Broner’s guts. Broner clinches and then eats a vicious right hand with 25 seconds left. Broner clinches and then falls to his knees. He’s up and misses with two huge left hooks just before the bell.

Round 11

Porter is stalking Broner but not landing anything. Porter comes in and is tagged by a hard right hand. Porter is all over him again, digging to the head and body and Broner wants none of it. Broner clinches again and elicits a roar of boos. Porter charges in head first, eats a left hand and then slams shots to the body. Broner literally runs away from him while Porter chases him. When Porter gets close, Broner clinches again. Weeks finally takes a point from him right near the end.

Round 12

Broner likely needs a knockout in order to win this, but with some of the earlier rounds, things could get very interesting. Short left hook from Broner is clean and Porter is knocked onto his back. He is up but definitely hurt. Broner is all over him but Porter swings back. Porter and Broner trade serious leather until a clinch. Porter looks to have cleared his head and returns to slamming wild shots at his foe. Broner covers up and clinches, They split and Broner nails him with another sharp left hook. Porter looks fuzzy after that but he’s still crashing away. Broner crashes a nasty right hand on the inside and Porter freezes up. Porter is in trouble and Broner, now, is all over him. Porter reverses roles and pins Broner into the ropes, tearing away as best he can. With 20 seconds left, Broner still might need a knockout to win. They go toe-to-toe for the final 10 seconds, bringing the crowd into an absolute frenzy.
