Phinney Makes MMA Debut at WCF 11 on June 18

Matt Phinney will take his first step into pro MMA on June 18, when the two-time Golden Gloves winner competes at World Championship Fighting 11.

Phinney is likely best known by fans as Jorge Rivera's boxing coach and the man who impersonated Michael Bisping in a series of popular viral videos produced prior to Rivera's UFC 127 clash with the Brit. Phinney will meet Mike Mason, who will also make his pro debut at the show.

"I've been trying to take an MMA fight for a while now, but there aren't many guys looking to take a fight with a first timer with a strong boxing background," said Phinney. "I've had several opponents back out on me, and I'm thankful that a guy like Mike Mason was willing to step up and take the fight. He comes from a really tough team, and I'm excited we can both go in there and get some experience together."

Headlined by a lightweight title clash between UFC veteran Dan Lauzon and once-beaten Noah Weisman, WCF 11 will emanate from Aleppo Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington, Mass. Also featured on the card will be Bellator and WEC veteran Anthony Leone, as he locks horns with Bill Jones in a featherweight confrontation.
