One FC 21 Results: ‘Roar of Tigers’ Play-by-Play & Updates

Hesham Hiba vs. Mohammad Sotounzadeh

Round 1

First fight on the under card is a welterweight matchup with Malaysian-based Iranian Mohammad 'Barbod' Sotounzadeh taking on Egypt’s Hesham Hiba. Barbod attempts an early spinning back kick to the head which narrowly misses and Hiba pushes forward with punches. One of which seems to open up a cut on Barbod who tries another wild spinning strike before taking the Egyptian down and moving into side control. Hiba gets up but Barbod has his back. The Iranian has one hook in and is working for a rear-naked choke but he can’t quite slip his arm under Hiba’s chin. Hiba escapes and ends up in Barbod’s guard but Barbod works his way up and takes Hiba down again with a big slam.

Round 2

Barbod looks for a takedown and they clinch against the cage. Barbod is trying to lock in a standing a guillotine but Hiba is able to execute a textbook sweep and, as the Iranian turtles up, he finishes him with a barrage of punches.

Anatpong Bunrad vs. Marc Marcellinus

Round 1

Anatpong Bunrad is from Thailand but has a background in BJJ rather than muay Thai and it is Marc Marcellinus who draws first blood with some hard kicks and punches. But he over commits to his attacks and is push kicked to the ground and then finished off with a soccer kick.

Stephen Langdown vs. Raymond Tan

Round 1

Tan starts off on the front foot as Langdown employs lots of lateral footwork to try and stay out of range. Tan briefly traps him up against the cage before Langdown slips out and attempts a one-two which narrowly misses. They clinch against the cage again and Tan drops for a takedown, but Langdown defends it and lands a series of elbows to the side of the Malaysian’s head, which hurt him and the Singaporean capitalizes with a knee to the head followed by a soccer kick for the first-round KO win.

Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke vs. Saiful Merican

Round 1

Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke attempts a low kick and Saiful Merican catches it and takes him down. Saiful is in the guard of the Thai but can’t mount any offence and the referee stands then up. Dejdamrong attempts a body kick but Saiful catches it again and, following a scramble, Dejdamrong ends up on his back for the second time but once again Saiful stalls and the referee stands them up. Saiful shoots for a takedown but Dejdamrong stuffs it and lands two knees to the head. The Thai comes in with a flying knee and Dejdamrong is looking more confident and starting to pick Saiful apart in the striking exchanges but the Malaysian finishes the round with a double leg takedown.

Round 2

Saiful is backpedaling frantically at the start of the round as Dejdamrong comes in with a hard body kick and the Thai ends up on top following a scramble and an unsuccessful leg lock attempt from the Malaysian. Dejdamrong is in mount and doing damage with ground and pound but he rolls for an armbar which eventually forces the tap.

Tanaphong Khunhankaew vs. Bashir Ahmad

Round 1

These two have trained together but there is no feeling-out process as Bashir Ahmad attacks straight from the bell and they clinch up against the cage with Tanaphong Khunhankaew defending a single-leg attempt and giving up the position to go for a Kimura from his back, which he can’t complete. Ahmed goes for a guillotine attempt which he uses to move into mount and throw some punches. They cause the Thai to give up his back. Khunhankaew defends the rear-naked choke attempt for over a minute but eventually Ahmad is able to lock his arms together and force the tap.

Aya Saeid Saber vs. Ann Osman

Round 1

Ann Osman comes out with a series of right body kicks, as the taller Aya Saeid Saber looks to establish her jab. Osman instigates a clinch and easily drags Saber to the ground, landing in side control where she goes to work with knees and elbows before moving into mount and raining down more elbows which cause referee Olivier Coste to step in and call a halt to the contest.

Edward Kelly vs. Ev Ting

Round 1

Ev Ting shoots for an immediate takedown but Kelly sprawls and defends for over a minute before Ting sweeps him to the ground and finishes in half guard with the Filipino trapped up against the cage. Kelly works his way back up to his feet and Ting tries for another takedown but the referee separates them with just under two minutes remaining. After some striking exchanges Ting works for the takedown again but Kelly shrugs him off only to eat a head kick from the New Zealand-based Malaysian. A high-intensity first round finishes with the two fighters clinching up against the cage.

Round 2

Ting lands a hard left body kick from the southpaw stance and immediately tries for a takedown which he can’t quite complete. Ting lands an elbow on the break and the pace slows before Ting lands a knee and tags Kelly with a right hook. Ting’s striking looks crisp but he goes back to pressing Kelly up against the cage and looking for the takedown. They separate and Ting lands a low kick before pressing Kelly up against the cage again and trying unsuccessfully for yet another takedown. The referee separates them again and Ting lands a head kick which knocks Kelly out cold.

Vaughn Donayre vs. Peter Davis

Round 1

Peter Davis is a big favorite with the Malaysian crowd and he comes out with a jab and a body kick, which Donayre attempts to catch but cannot. Donayre wobbles Davis with a right hand but the Malaysian responds with a low kick and looping overhand right of his own. Davis execute a double leg and moves into mount but Donayre slips out and Davis ends up on his back going all out for a guillotine. it looks tight but he can’t complete it. Donayre ends up in side control before Davis establishes his guard. Donayre postures up but eats some upkicks and Davis is able to use his long legs to flip Donayre onto his back and launch a flurry of elbows from the mount which causes he referee to step in and stop the fight with seconds remaining in the round.

Peter Davis Def. Vaughn Donayre TKO (Elbows) R1 4:50

Marat Gafurov vs. Rob Lisita

Round 1

Rob Lisita narrowly misses with a right hand but he gets dropped by a head kick from Gafurov, who immediately takes his back, gets his hooks in and flattens Lisita out. He forces the Australian to tap to a rear-naked choke shortly after.
