Octagon Headed to China for UFC on Fuel TV in Macau on Nov. 10

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s long-discussed foray into China is now a reality, as promotion officials announced Tuesday evening that the organization will stage an event Nov. 10 in Macau.

The event, which is expected to be UFC on Fuel TV 6, takes place at the 15,000-seat Venetian Macau Resort Hotel’s CotaiArena. No bouts were announced for the show Tuesday.

The evening’s main card will be broadcast on Fuel TV, while the preliminary proceedings are expected to stream live on Facebook. The show marks the UFC’s second trip to Asia this year following the organization’s February visit to Japan for UFC 144.

“This event is a major step in the development of the UFC brand in this region of the world and China in particular,” said Mark Fischer, UFC managing director of Asia. “We are delighted by this opportunity to build on the media growth and attention we have received and to finally bring a live event in prime time to the millions of fans in this area.”

Like nearby Hong Kong, Macau is a special administrative region of the People’s Republic of China. The territory houses nearly 545,000 citizens, making up just a fraction of China’s overall population of more than 1.3 billion.

“Breaking into a market with a population of over 1.3 billion is both a testament to the growth of our sport and a long-term challenge we are excited to undertake,” said Lorenzo Fertitta, UFC chairman and CEO in the official release. “This is just the first of many world-class fights we plan to hold over the coming years in China, one of the birthplaces of martial arts. The world-class CotaiArena in Macau is an ideal place to start this journey.”
