Mike Perry Gets Hometown Duty Versus Max Griffin at UFC on Fox 28 in Orlando

Surely you didn’t think the Ultimate Fighting Championship was going to leave Mike Perry off of a network television card in his hometown, did you?

Though not yet officially announced by the promotion, heavy-hitting Perry appears set to square off with like-minded striker Max Griffin at UFC on Fox 28, scheduled for Feb. 24 at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. Both 170-pounders seemingly confirmed the contest Monday via social media.

Pumped to fight here in #Orlando where I live ! @maxpainmma is trying to bring the pain in my city ! We about the #PlatinumParties here in the O!” Perry posted on Instagram on Monday evening.

The colorful welterweight had made an appearance on “The MMA Hour” with Ariel Helwani earlier in the day, hinting that he had a fight booked and the opponent would be imminently revealed.

“Whoever want to show up and fight me in my hometown,” said Perry. “If they haven’t signed the bout agreement yet, you can probably know who I’m talking about if you’re listening to this and if you said we was gonna fight, so we might as well be about it, sign that paper or if not, I understand. I will end somebody’s career right here in Orlando, we’ll just see who it’s going to be.”

Not long after Perry’s “MMA Hour” appearance, Griffin let the proverbial cat out of the bag on Instagram.

“Leggo!!! The day has finally come. Me vs @platinummikeperry in Orlando on @ufconfox," posted Griffin.

After posting a 4-1 mark inside the Octagon, the 26-year-old Perry got primetime, network television duties in his last outing: at UFC on Fox 26 on Dec. 16, Perry dropped a unanimous decision to Argentina’s Santiago Ponzinibbio in an wild and woolly brawl.

Griffin, 32, was pounded out in the third round by rising contender Colby Covington in his August 2016 UFC debut. After a 54-second knockout of Erick Montano. “Max Pain” took a second loss in the Octagon courtesy of Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos, who earned a unanimous decision over the Californian in a fun dust-up this past October in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
