Mendes KOs Siler, Bias Outpoints Klarcyk

LEMOORE, Calif. -- Chad Mendes continued his climb up the featherweight ranks, as he knocked out Steven Siler in 44 seconds at Tachi Palace Fights inside the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino.

Mendes came out and dropped Siler with an overhand right and never let up, ending the fight with a powerful left before the first-minute mark.

Mendes, fighting out of Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male, improved to 4-0.

In the evening’s co-main event, Shawn Bias got back on the winning track by out-pointing Porterville featherweight Shawn Klarcyk for a majority decision. Bias had a point deducted in the second round for kneeing the head of Klarcyk, who was considered down at the time. The judges scored the bout 29-27, 29-27, and 28-28.

Bias’ submission defense looked greatly improved, as he warded off any offense Klarcyk dished out on the ground. Bias controlled the pace of the fight, and scored several reversals that gave him the opportunities to pound away from the top.
