Verbal agreements are in place for a March 3 welterweight matchup between Court McGee and Constantinos Philippou, UFC officials announced Wednesday.

Slated to take place at UFC on FX 2, the bout joins a 170-pound main event pitting Martin Kampmann against Thiago Alves. Set to take place at Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia, the event will also contain the semifinals of the promotion’s four-man flyweight tournament, featuring Demetrious Johnson, Ian McCall, Joseph Benavidez and Yasuhiro Urushitani.

McGee, 27, rides an eight-fight winning streak heading into his showdown with Philippou. “The Crusher” made his official UFC debut at “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 11 finale, besting Kris McCray to win the season and earn his UFC contract.

The Utah-based fighter was also successful in his next two outings, submitting Ryan Jensen in October 2010 before returning from injury to outpoint South Korea’s Dongi Yang this past September at Fight Night 25.

Philippou showed powerful standup skills in his most recent Octagon appearance, crushing Jared Hamman earlier this month at UFC 140. Prior to his first-round knockout over Hamman, the heavy-hitting 185-pounder earned a split decision victory over Jorge Rivera in August after dropping his UFC debut to Nick Catone at UFC 128 in March.
