Manny Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios Results: Play-by-Play & Live Updates

Who doesn’t love a good fight?

Never a fan of limitations and labels, Sherdog.com staff and editors are pleased to reveal that their love for a good scrap is not limited to those that throw leather in a cage.

With that said, longtime Sherdog.com contributor and Las Vegas-based boxing writer Mike Sloan will provide round-by-round action of Saturday’s highly-anticipated Manny Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios fight live from Macao.

Sloan will be joined by respected boxing personality Gary Randall from Ring Magazine Online and House of Boxing fame as well as Sherdog.com Managing Editor Mike Fridley in scoring all of the action.

In addition to in-depth round-by-round updates of the main event, Sloan will also blog live results of the bill’s four-bout undercard in short format.

Sherdog.com sister site CraveOnline.com has a free live stream of the event's red carpet arrivals and the untelevised undercard. Tune in at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT for the festivities.

Untelevised Undercard Fights

In the opening bout of the evening, young super featherweight prospect Harmonito Dela Torre kept his pro record unblemished with a third round TKO over Jason Butar-Butar (15-12-1, 11 KOs). The official time of the stoppage came at the 1:23 mark, giving Dela Torre (11-0) his sixth career knockout.

Lightweight prospect Ik Yang had a tougher-than-expected battle with Indonesian Hero Tito, but the Chinese-born South Korean fighter walked way with a majority decision. Yang (13-0, 9 KOs) was aggressive throughout and landed dozens of stinging punches to the face and punishing hooks to the body, but Tito (7-2, 3 KOs) was game throughout the contest and returned fire when he could. In the end, Yang was awarded the victory via tallies of 57-57, 60-54 and 59-55; Mike Sloan also had it for Yang 59-55.

Local junior middleweight Kuok Kun Ng easily won his second pro fight by drubbing You-Jie Zeng (4-5, 4 KOs) over four rounds. Ng was too fast and far too accurate for the Thai fighter to handle and by the time the fight was over, Zeng was barely standing due to abuse and exhaustion. The three ringside judges all had it 40-36 for Ng (2-0), as did Sherdog.com's Sloan.

Hong Kong’s Rex Tso (8-0, 4 KOs, 2 NC) was impressive in stopping Bangkok’s Susu Sithjadeang (7-4, 2 KOs) in the opening round of their bantamweight showdown. Tso dropped his opponent with a straight right about 30 seconds into the duel and then swarmed him with a barrage of nasty hooks and uppercuts to the head and body. After about 40 unanswered blows, referee Genaro Rodriguez finally stepped in and halted the mugging. The official time of the TKO came at the 2:29 mark.

Flyweights: Zou Shiming vs. Juan Tozcano

The Official Result

Budding Chinese superstar flyweight Zou Shiming was simply far too much for opponent Juan Toscano to handle and coasted to a lopsided unanimous six round decision. Shiming, who captured Olympic gold in both the 2008 and 2012 Games, landed dozens of clean combos throughout the contest, cut the Mexican below the right eye and seemed on the verge of stopping him several times, but referee Genaro Rodriguez allowed Toscano (4-1, 1 KO) to survive until the end. The three ringside judges saw it for Shiming via tallies of 60-54 (twice) and 60-52. Mike Sloan also had it 60-52 for Shiming, who improved to 3-0.

Super Flyweights: Felix Verdejo vs. Petchsamuthr Duanaaymukdahan

The Official Result

2012 Puerto Rican Olympian Felix Verdejo (9-0, 6 KOs) was nearly flawless in his dismantling of the rugged Petchsamuthr Duanaaymukdahan to open the main card. Verdejo’s speed, footwork and blistering combos to the head and body gave the Thai lightweight all sorts of problems; it looked like Duanaaymukdahan (8-2, 1 KO) was in slow motion throughout the fight. Still, as badly as Verderjo thrashed his opponent, he couldn’t put him away and wound up coasting to a lopsided unanimous decision via tallies of 60-53 on all three cards. Sherdog.com's Mike Sloan scored it the same: 60-53.

Heavyweights: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Tor Hamer

The Official Result

Mexican heavyweight contender Andy Ruiz overcame a somewhat shaky start in his fight with Tor Hamer and scored an early-rounds stoppage. Hamer shook Ruiz with a right early in the first frame, but once Ruiz figured out the New Yorker’s attacks, he seized control and never looked back. Ruiz began busting up his foe with rapid combos but even though Hamer (21-3, 14 KOs) wasn’t showing any signs of genuine damage, either he or his corner called it day and opted out of the contest. Ruiz was officially awarded with a TKO at the end of the fourth, improving to 21-0 with 15 KOs.

Featherweights: Evgeny Gradovich vs. Billy Dib

The Official Result

When Evgeny Gradovich and Billy Dib first met inside the ring in March, their battle was one of the best of 2013. Gradovich won a split decision in a back-and-forth duel that could have gone either way. When the rematch was announced to anchor the massive Pacquiao-Rios card, the boxing world rejoiced. However, the featherweights’ second go-around didn’t live up to expectations as Gradovich dominated his Aussie counterpart from start to finish; his victory never in question.

Gradovich wasn’t quite as reckless as he was in their initial meeting and his refined, almost patient approach to the contest seemed to throw Dib off his game. Gradovich landed sneaky counters and pesky combos all fight long and Dib never was able to get himself into any sort of rhythm. The Oxnard-based Russian tore into Dib’s body throughout and when he wasn’t tearing up the ribcage, Gradovich peppered his foe with sharp shots to the head. Gradovich scored a knockdown in the sixth round and even though it seemed more like a stumble than anything, it was a microcosm of what was taking place inside the ropes.

As Dib’s punch output slowed down, Gradovich poured on the offense and eventually forced Dib’s corner to throw in the towel. The official time of the stoppage came at 1:10 of the ninth round. Dib (36-3, 21 KOs) was pinned in a corner and once Gradovich (18-0, 9 KOs) unloaded a barrage of powerful shots, his corner jumped onto the ring apron to end the fight.
