Makovsky-Roberts Non-Title Tilt on Tap for Bellator 54

Bellator Fighting Championships bantamweight titleholder Zach Makovsky will be back in action on Oct. 15, but his belt will not be on the line.

Sherdog.com today confirmed that “Fun Size” will square off with onetime UFC competitor Ryan Roberts at Bellator 54, which takes place at the Boardwalk Hall Ballroom in Atlantic City, N.J. MMADieHards.com first reported the matchup Wednesday morning.

In addition to the Makovsky-Roberts non-title bout, Bellator 54 will showcase Bellator lightweight ace Eddie Alvarez squaring off against fourth-season tournament winner Michael Chandler in a five-round championship tilt.

Twice-beaten through nearly five years as a professional, Makovsky (Pictured) has yet to taste defeat inside the Bellator cage. The 28-year-old won the promotion’s inaugural bantamweight tournament in 2010, besting Nick Mamalis, Bryan Goldsby and Ed West to become the company’s first 135-pound champion. Makovsky has yet to defend his belt, but did notch a third-round stoppage of Chad Robichaux in an April non-title affair.

Roberts has already competed four times in 2011 and has yet to lose this year. After earning three straight decision wins, Roberts fought Rick Glenn to a draw in his most recent outing on Aug. 5. The Disorderly Conduct fighter has only been knocked out once since beginning his pro career in 2006 and has finished 10 of his 16 conquered foes by either knockout or submission.
