Lightweights Melvin Guillard, ‘Morango’ Camoes to Square Off at UFC 148 in Las Vegas

Melvin Guillard will attempt to right his ship at UFC 148 when he squares off with Fabricio Camoes at the July 7 event, promotion officials announced Friday.

UFC 148 takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will feature a light heavyweight rubber match between former UFC light heavyweight titlists Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz. Additionally, onetime UFC middleweight ace Rich Franklin returns to 185 pounds to scrap with former Strikeforce champion Cung Le.

Guillard has dropped back-to-back starts heading into his showdown with Camoes (Pictured, center). Prior to his recent two-fight skid, the Imperial Athletics representative had won eight of nine fights dating back to 2007. After posting impressive wins over Evan Dunham and Shane Roller to start 2011, the 29-year-old was upset by Joe Lauzon to close out the year. Most recently, the former Greg Jackson pupil was submitted by Jim Miller on Jan. 20.

Like his upcoming opponent, Camoes last competed at UFC on FX 1, finishing Tom Hayden with a rear-naked choke to earn his third consecutive victory. Camoes, 33, will make his fourth Octagon appearance at UFC 148 and has earned a 1-1-1 record in his three fights with the promotion to-date. A veteran of EliteXC, Tachi Palace Fights and Strikeforce competition, “Morango” has finished half of his career victims by submission.
