Lightweights Gray Maynard, Clay Guida Hit Marks for UFC on FX 4 Main Event

The careers of two of the sport’s premier lightweights will intersect in a matter of hours, when the Ultimate Fighting Championship touches down in the “World’s Favorite Playground” for the first time in seven years.

Two-time title contender Gray Maynard checked in at 155 pounds for his high-stakes showdown with Clay Guida (155) in the UFC on FX 4 headliner on Friday at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, N.J. The six other men booked for duty on the main card, including co-headliners Sam Stout (155.5) and Spencer Fisher (156), also met their mandatory weight requirements without incident at Thursday’s official weigh-in.

A decorated amateur wrestler, Maynard was a three-time All-American at Michigan State University. The 32-year-old last appeared at UFC 136 in October, when he succumbed to fourth-round punches in another memorable scrap with then-lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. A semifinalist on Season 5 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series, Maynard owns notable victories over recently retired three-time UFC title contender Kenny Florian, the world-ranked Nate Diaz and AMA Fight Club standout Jim Miller. He has compiled a stellar 8-1-1 mark inside the Octagon.

Guida last fought at UFC on Fox 1 in November, when his four-fight winning streak was snapped in a unanimous decision loss to current lightweight titleholder Benson Henderson. Based out of Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts, the 30-year-old Round Lake, Ill., native and onetime Strikeforce champion has delivered more than half (15) of his 29 career victories by submission. Guida, who has never been knocked out in 41 professional outings, holds a 9-6 mark in the UFC.

UFC on FX 4 -- which airs live on the FX network at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT -- will also feature a welterweight duel pitting the well-traveled Brian Ebersole (170) against T.J. Waldburger (170.5) and a featherweight bout matching “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 9 winner Ross Pearson (146) with WEC import Cub Swanson (145.5).

Three hours prior, Fuel TV will carry half a dozen preliminary matchups: Hatsu Hioki (145.5) vs. Ricardo Lamas (145), Ramsey Nijem (156) vs. C.J. Keith (*157), Rick Story (169.5) vs. Brock Jardine (170.5), Steven Siler (145.5) vs. Joey Gambino (145), Nick Catone (185.5) vs. Chris Camozzi (185.5) and Matt Brown (170.5) vs. Luis Ramos (170). The two remaining undercard fights will stream to the UFC’s Facebook page, as former International Fight League middleweight champion Dan Miller (170.5) collides with Ricardo Funch (170.5) and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 14 alum Dustin Pague (135) squares off with American Top Team’s Ken Stone (135.5).
