Lavar Johnson-Brendan Schaub, Mike Swick-Matt Brown Added to UFC on Fox 5 in Seattle

Two new bouts have been added to UFC on Fox 5, as promotion officials recently announced that heavyweights Lavar Johnson and Brendan Schaub will square off at the Dec. 8 event, as will welterweights Matt Brown and Mike Swick.

UFC on Fox 5 takes place at Seattle’s KeyArena and is headlined by a lightweight title tilt between reigning champion Benson Henderson and surging challenger Nate Diaz.

Johnson (Pictured) previously competed for World Extreme Cagefighting and Strikeforce before making his UFC debut in January, blasting the durable Joey Beltran into unconsciousness at UFC on Fox 2. The Californian next earned a technical knockout over kickboxer Pat Barry on May 5 at UFC on Fox 3 and returned to the cage three weeks later against Stefan Struve, submitting to an armbar just 65 seconds into the UFC 146 clash.

Schaub has not competed since falling by knockout to former International Fight League standout Ben Rothwell at UFC 145. The setback marked the second consecutive defeat for “The Hybrid,” as Schaub was also knocked out by ex-Pride champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira one year ago, snapping a four-fight winning streak for “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 finalist.

Brown has won three fights in a row after posting four losses in his previous five outings. “The Immortal” kicked off 2012 with a technical knockout win over “TUF 13” veteran Chris Cope on Feb. 4 before taking a unanimous decision from highly-touted standup specialist Stephen Thompson at UFC 145. Most recently, the 26-fight veteran earned a TKO victory over Luis Ramos on June 22 at UFC on FX 4.

Swick returned to the Octagon two weeks ago after spending 30 months on the sideline due to injury and illness. “Quick” acquitted himself well in his UFC on Fox 4 clash with DaMarques Johnson, surviving a difficult first round before producing a devastating knockout over “Darkness” in round two. The win halted a two-fight skid for Swick, who had dropped bouts to Dan Hardy and Paulo Thiago prior to his extended absence from competition.
