Lauzon-Weisman Title Bout Booked for WCF 11 on June 18

Massachusetts-based promotion World Championship Fighting will return from a year-long hiatus on June 18 when it hosts WCF 11 at the Aleppo Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington, Mass.

The company announced Tuesday that its comeback card will be headlined by New England lightweights Dan Lauzon (Pictured) and Noah Weisman, who will vie for the vacant WCF 155-pound title. Also added to the bill was a middleweight co-main event between former Team Sityodtong teammates Greg Rebello and Scott Rehm.

Lauzon, 23, holds the distinction of being the youngest competitor ever to set foot inside the UFC’s Octagon. In October 2006, then 18-year-old Lauzon took on Spencer Fisher at UFC 64, succumbing to the veteran’s punches late in the first round and subsequently being released by Zuffa. The “Upgrade” would go on to finish eight consecutive opponents, a streak which ended when he reentered the UFC in 2010 and was topped in back-to-back bouts by Cole Miller and Efrain Escudero.

Since his release in May 2010, Lauzon has notched stoppage wins against John Ortolani and, most recently, local rival Damien Trites. His bout with Weisman will mark Lauzon’s first since being stabbed in the shoulder during a February altercation outside a pub in Bridgewater, Mass.

A native of Burlington, Vt., Weisman enters the biggest matchup of his young career on a three-fight win streak. The 31-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt holds a record of 5-1, having fallen only to top-ranked local lightweight John Benoit in February 2010. Weisman was last seen recording a second-round technical knockout of fellow WCF veteran Joel Ly on Feb. 25.
