They stand head-to-head and slam hooks into each other’s body late in the frame. Nice jab by the American, but Mikhaylenko counters with a left hook to the head. It winds up being a close round. The American is backing up and circling to his left, allowing his opponent to get comfortable. A right to the body seems to have hurt Mayfield with 30 seconds left, but he’s masking it well. Mikhaylenko doesn’t pick up on it and instead throws a few shots to the head. A nice right over the top by Mayfield at the bell. 10-9 Mikhaylenko.

There is a small cut on the outside corner of Mikhaylenko’s left eye, but it doesn’t seem to be too worrisome. With a minute left, Mayfield lets his hands go, but Mikhaylenko counters with a pair of thudding slugs downstairs. A decent exchange at the bell but Mikhaylenko appears to be in total control. 10-9 Mikhaylenko.

Round 4

Mayfield lands a lead right but his follow-up volley of bombs miss by mere inches. Mayfield is breathing heavily through his mouth already, but it’s unclear as to how winded he is. A nice jab by the Russian, followed by a right to the ribs. Mayfield backs into the ropes and Mikhaylenko tees off on his body. Karim finally escapes to his left to reset. Mayfield is on his bike quite a bit, appearing to be unwilling to trade with his foe. Mikhaylenko continues to stalk his prey, but he is laced by a right and then a left hook. Dmitry walks right through it, though, and goes with a jab and then a left hook. 10-9 Mikhaylenko.

A pair of left hooks from the Russian, but they bounce off Mayfield’s head with nothing on them. A straight right-left uppercut to the jaw by Dmitry, but Mayfield answers with a wild overhand right that misses. Decent action late. 10-9 Mikhaylenko.

Round 9

A series of jabs and some lead rights by Mikhaylenko, who continues to dominate. Mayfield backs away, looking for a spot to open up. Mikhaylenko swallows him up with his pressure, but Mayfield is able to block most of the attacks. The action slows to a crawl with a minute left as Mayfield seems unwilling to trade with his adversary. Mayfield is gutted by a pair of uppercuts downstairs, but he absorbs them. Mayfield appears as though he’s decided to save face and survive until the end; he’s on his bike almost entirely. 10-9 Mikhaylenko.

Round 10

It goes without saying that Mayfield needs a knockout. His corner is cussing him out, telling to let his hands go, etc. Mikhaylenko’s corner tells him to finish strong, though he likely doesn’t need to. Mayfield storms out and charges right into his foe, but Mikhaylenko ties him up. They clinch a few times early. Mayfield continues to plug away early, looking to catch lightning in a bottle. A left to the cheek from the Russian, but the San Francisco fighter walks through it. They exchange a flurry at the midway point but neither man is shaken. Mayfield is backing off now, likely opting to play it safe and coast toward defeat. Mikhaylenko continues to surge forward, though, looking to electrify the crowd with something. With a minute left, Karim isn’t going for broke. A nice right uppercut from Mikhaylenko, but Karim’s counter left hook misses. 10-9 Mikhaylenko (Unofficial score: 99-91 Mikhaylenko).
