Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury

Round 1

Fury is very aggressive and twitchy to start, trying to unload on Klitschko. The champ is cautious, waiting to find an opening. Plenty of feints by Tyson, who looks very anxious. A nice jab by Klitschko 80 seconds in, the first punch to land. A double jab and overhand right by Fury misses. Both men are apprehensive and begin tying each other up. A few pawing jabs from the Ukrainian bounce of his foe’s head. Fury starts taunting Klitschko at the bell. 10-9 Klitschko.

Round 2

A decent jab from the champ early in the round as Fury backs away. Tyson gets a moderate right hand in on the inside. Klitschko is slightly more aggressive as he moves forward but nothing is coming from it yet. Fury tags him with a left to the head, but it’s not terribly hard. Klitschko has yet to officially throw or land a power punch; only jabs. Fury walks into a short left as he clinches late. Very little action thus far six minutes in. 10-9 Fury.

Round 3

A pitter-patter of early jabs from both giants. Fury is side shuffling and laughing at the champ, trying to goad Klitschko into making a mistake. Fury drops his gloves and puts his hands behind his back, mocking Klitschko. Wladimir only stares at him. Fury moves to southpaw as Klitschko continues to peck away with sporadic jabs. They clinch again and Fury lands a rabbit punch; Tony Weeks scolds him. A few jabs and feints from both at the bell. 10-9 Fury.

Round 4

Fury is all over the place with his movement while Klitschko is walking right after him. A few jabs from the champ bounce off Tyson’s head, but they do little damage. Klitschko misses a left hook. Klitschko is seemingly unwilling or unable to let his hands go at the midway point. They clinch a few times, where Fury tries to rough the Ukrainian up. Klitschko misses with a left and right with a minute left. They tie each other up again as soon as Klitschko misses a right upstairs. Fury pegs the champ with a few meager jabs before being popped by a right. Close round. 10-9 Fury.

Round 5

Fury is on his bike early, eluding jabs and the stalking nature of Klitschko. They clinch and exchange rabbit punches, eliciting warnings from Weeks. A right to the head opens a small cut on Klitschko’s left cheek, just below the eye. After another pitter-patter exchange, they clinch. A right to the noggin is a glancing blow for the Brit. Klitschko continues to do almost zilch in this fight, allowing the challenger to steal virtually every one of these uneventful rounds. 10-9 Fury.

Round 6

Replays between rounds show that the cut on Klitschko’s cheek is from an accidental clash of heads, not a punch. A nice right-left upstairs for the challenger, but Klitschko shakes it off. Another nice jab from Fury behind a series of feints. Klitschko is flustered, unable to get into a rhythm. Fury again puts his gloves behind his back, trying to get under the champ’s skin. Klitschko is breathing heavily late and looks much weaker than Tyson during the clinches. Klitschko is extremely frustrated at round’s end. 10-9 Fury.

Round 7

Fury is extremely relaxed and talkative in his corner between rounds while Klitschko is panting and flustered. A jab-overhand right by Fury, though the power shot barely clips the champ. Klitschko ties Tyson up twice before landing a meager jab. The cut opens up a little wider on Klitschko’s cheek and it appears as though he’s now cut around his left eye as well. It’s almost exclusive clinching in this frame as Klitschko appears incapable of letting his hands go. Fury isn’t doing much more, but he is more active and barely winning these rounds. A few rights to the body from the Brit in a clinch. 10-9 Fury.

Round 8

Klitschko backs Fury into a corner, but he does nothing save for tying the Brit up. It’s nothing but clinches early. Hard left jab from the champ, his best punch in several rounds. Another nice jab from Klitschko. Fury ties him up. After a minute of clinching, Klitschko pops him with a glancing counter left hook. Fury unfurls a few slappy punches to the head late before clinching again. Another dreadful round ends and it could go to either man. The two jabs from Klitschko win it. 10-9 Klitschko.

Round 9

Fury backs all the way across the ring and into the ropes, only to have Klitschko tie him up. Wladimir paws with a pair of weak jabs, but Fury just stays in front of him before tying him up. Hard right to the dome by Klitschko and Fury backs up. Tyson makes a funny face, claiming he wasn’t hurt. They clinch and Fury lands another rabbit punch. Weeks sternly warns him of it and says he’ll penalize him next time. A couple of body shots by Fury before he tags him with a solid left to the head. Klitschko stumbles into the ropes but he seems okay once Fury doesn’t follow it up. Two stiff jabs from the challenger late. 10-9 Fury.

Round 10

Klitschko needs to start a rally or else his reign is over. They trade jabs early. Fury backs away to his left and circles behind his jab. Klitschko continues to just follow him around, unable to let his hands go. A lead right and double jab by Klitschko, but the shots do nothing to Fury. A left hook to the body from the Brit before he dives into Klitschko. Fury spins away and delivers a right to the body. 10-9 Fury.

Round 11

According to HBO’s stats, Klitschko has landed just 42 total punches through 10 rounds. Klitschko comes out hard from his corner and starts winging left hooks. Fury defends and counters with a left of his own. They clinch a few times. Fury is on his bike a minute in, not allowing the Ukrainian to get his offense going. Klitschko has ceased chasing after his foe and has reverted back to being a mannequin with gloves on. A moderate right to the head by Fury before tying the champ up. A decent shot to the body from Fury, who follows it up with a few punches upstairs. As expected, they clinch again and again late. Klitschko, who is bleeding around his right eye, is rocked by a left hook. He is hurt badly and he holds on. They clinch and Fury lands another rabbit punch. Weeks deducts a point but it’s most likely meaningless. 9-9.

Round 12

Klitschko clearly needs a knockout in order to retain his undisputed title. It’s plausible that he has lost every single round going in. Fury raps him with a right to the head. Klitschko is unsteady and they tie each other up. Fury is warned again to keep it clean. A double left hook by the challenger and it shakes Klitschko again. Wlad ties him up and is ready to go. Klitschko is exhausted and can’t get anything off. They clinch again. The champ nails Tyson with a right to the noggin. Klitschko plugs a left hook upstairs as well but Fury shakes it off. A few more clinches but once they split, Klitschko drills him with a left hook. Fury continues to tie the champ up whenever he can. With a minute left, Klitschko needs a miracle. Klitschko is wasting precious seconds by tying his foe up. With 20 seconds left, it’s now or never for the champ. A right to the face by the champ and then a left but time runs out. 10-9 Klitschko (116-111 Fury).
