Josh Barnett was impressed when Travis Browne knocked out Alistair Overeem in August at UFC Fight Night 26, but he wasn’t surprised.

“I see Alistair as a beatable person,” Barnett told the Sherdog Radio Network’s “Beatdown” show. “I’ve seen him get knocked out in person before. I’ve also seen him clean people’s clocks … . But I was surprised [Browne] was able to come back from getting dropped from a body shot like that. It goes to show intestinal fortitude will get you a long way.”

Browne, 15-1, was in trouble in the fight. As Barnett noted, however, the Hawaiian dug deep and came back to finish Overeem with a front kick and punches.

“I think his record speaks for itself,” Barnett said. “He’s had plenty of success in the ring. He’s earned his way to his prominence in the UFC. The only real way to find out what I [think] of his skills in the ring is to go out there and fight him.”

The heavyweight matchup is set for Saturday at UFC 168. Barnett will enter the fight a winner of two straight, having stopped Frank Mir most recently in his August return to the UFC. Browne’s also coming off two wins. Before knocking out Overeem, he had knocked out Gabriel Gonzaga.

“I think it pays me a lot of money,” said Barnett when asked to analyze the matchup. “I think that it pushes my career along in a very nice way.”

Browne’s gone the distance just twice in his 16 professional fights. Barnett, also, has a record full of finishes. He expects another one when he meets Browne on Saturday.

“[It’s] striker versus grappler for the most part,” he said, “but I don’t think it’s going to be a long fight.”
