Jorge Masvidal Dismisses Leon Edwards, Claims He’s Been Promised Title Shot

Jorge Masvidal was clearly not impressed by Leon Edwards’ five-round decision victory over Rafael dos Anjos at UFC on ESPN 4 on Saturday night in San Antonio.

“Big difference between putting top ranked opponents to sleep and putting fans to sleep,” Masvidal wrote on Twitter.

Masvidal’s stock has never been higher thanks to a five-second knockout of Ben Askren at UFC 239 earlier this month. That victory, coupled with a second-round knockout of former title challenger Darren Till at UFC London has rocketed “Gamebred” to the top of the welterweight contenders’ list.

For that reason, the Miami-based fighter quickly dismissed Edwards’ callout following his main event victory over dos Anjos. Masvidal and Edwards have history, though, as they briefly scuffled backstage at UFC London this past March. Edwards is currently on an eight-fight winning streak, the second-longest in the welterweight division behind only reigning champion Kamaru Usman.

“So I can be clear I was promised a title shot after I beat Askren and I plan on cashing in on it,” Masvidal wrote. Don’t call me out no more until I get that belt.”
