Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira now have a fight date, as UFC officials recently announced that Jones will defend his light heavyweight championship against the heavy-handed challenger at UFC 170.
The light heavyweights were initially announced as the UFC 169 main event, but that booking was then rescinded. UFC 169 serves as the promotion’s annual Super Bowl card and is now topped by a bantamweight title unification fight between Dominick Cruz and Renan Barao, as well as a featherweight championship co-main event between Jose Aldo and Ricardo Lamas.

Jones, 26, last competed on Sept. 21, narrowly edging Alexander Gustafsson in a “Fight of the Year” nominee at UFC 165. The victory marked the second triumph for “Bones” in 2013, as he kicked off the year with a successful title defense against “TUF 17” rival Chael Sonnen at April’s UFC 159.
Teixeira, 34, has not lost since March 2006 and posted five straight wins to start his Octagon career, finishing Kyle Kingsbury and Fabio Maldonado last year before outpointing Quinton Jackson this past January. The expat Brazilian followed those wins with two more victories to close out 2013, submitting James Te Huna with a guillotine choke in May before knocking out Ryan Bader on Sept. 4 at UFC Fight Night 28.
