Jon Jones Rips Alexander Gustafsson for Post-UFC Fight Night 109 Comments
Alexander Gustafsson may have re-inserted himself into the light heavyweight title discussion with his knockout win over Glover Teixeira this past Sunday, but he drew the ire of former foe Jon Jones for his post-fight comments.

“I don’t like him. I give him that he’s the best fighter of all-time, the best pound-for-pound fighter of our division; of course, everybody knows that,” said Gustafsson, who proposed to his girlfriend in the Octagon after vanquishing Teixeira. “He hasn’t even lost a fight yet, he demolishes everyone he fights.
“But as a person, as a champion ... he’s not a champion, in my
eyes. He’s not a good person, in my eyes.”
Jones took exception to Gustafsson’s comments on Wednesday evening, blasting the Swede in a series of tweets.
“I’m not a champion because you don’t like my personality? F—k you lol,” Jones wrote. “‘Jon Jones is a bad person’” you sound like a f—-ing dork. Congrats on the engagement though, beautiful woman.”
Jones’ issues since defeating Cormier at UFC 182 in January 2015 have been well-documented. The Jackson-Wink MMA standout tested positive for cocaine metabolites prior to that contest and was fined $25,000 for violating the UFC’s Athlete Code of Conduct. Later that year, Jones was arrested for fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run accident that injured a pregnant woman in Albuquerque, N.M., which resulted in him being indefinitely suspended and stripped of his 205-pound belt.
Jones did not return to action until April 2016, when he took a five-round verdict over Ovince St. Preux to claim the interim light heavyweight crown. He was booked to face Cormier for the undisputed title at UFC 200 but was pulled from the bout after testing positive for anti-estrogen agents clomiphene and letrozole during an out-of-competition drug screening. His year-long suspension for that failed test will end on July 6.
Jones and Gustafsson have history as well. The 30-year-old Swede gave Jones arguably the toughest test of his career at UFC 165 before losing a hard fought unanimous verdict over five rounds. “The Mauler” also got a crack at Cormier’s title but dropped a split decision to “DC” at UFC 192. Gustafsson claimed that he has shored up his conditioning since those defeats.
“I’ve just been so close to winning the fights, I lose a little bit in the end, but we've changed our camp and our conditioning is on another level,” Gustafsson said on Sunday. “Today, I’m not going to lose on the finish line again. It’s not going to happen. Today, I could go 10 rounds. I could go 10 rounds next time I fight DC or Jones.”
Jones, of course, sees things differently.
“And here’s a little FYI, you didn’t lose against DC and I because of your cardio, it was because of your lack of heart,” Jones wrote.
“I’m not a champion because I’m a bad person?” he later added. “You’re not a champion because you don’t win championship fights.”
