Jon Jones Pleads Not Guilty to Drag Racing, Other Traffic Violations

Former UFC champion Jon Jones pleaded not guilty to five traffic violations on Tuesday.

Bernalillo (N.M.) County Metropolitan Court spokesperson Camille Baca confirmed the news to Sherdog.com. The fighter's hearing was orginally scheduled for Tuesday, but it was postponed when his legal team filed a waiver arraignment last week. Jones is not due back in court until May 11 at 2 p.m. MT.

On March 24, Jones was cited for drag racing, having a modified exhausted, swerving between lanes, exhibitionist driving and obscuring his license plates’s registration. In body camera footage of the incident, Jones argues with police officer Jason Brown and calls him a “f---ing liar” and a “pig.”

Jones was arrested last week for a probation violation as a result of the traffic tickets. He spent two nights in jail before appearing in court on Thursday, when his probation was updated to include anger management and driver improvement courses as well as 60 hours community service. The Jackson-Wink MMA representative is currently serving 18 months supervised probation for pleading guilty to a hit-and-run charge that occurred in Albuquerque last year.

Jones will not have to appear in court before he faces Ovince St. Preux for the interim light heavyweight championship in the UFC 197 main event. “Bones” told ”The MMA Hour” on Monday that he has hired a full-time driver in light of his most recent troubles. Jones is currently not allowed to drive himself without receiving permission from his probation officer.
