Anderson Silva vs. Jake Paul

Round 1

Well, here we are. Disney Channel star turned Youtube clown turned skilled pro boxer Jake Paul faces MMA legend turned geriatric pro boxer Anderson Silva. The former clown is a considerable -250 favorite last I checked the odds against arguably the greatest striker MMA has ever seen. Which I feel makes sense; being 25 years old is a huge advantage over a 47 year old foe. Paul starts the fight with a series of jabs, and a couple land. Silva is calm and looking for his spots. Paul misses with a jab to the body. Both men are cautious early, with Silva hardly throwing at all. Paul lands a straight right to the body. Silva is circling away, but there is less room to do so in a boxing ring than in an MMA cage. A left hook from Paul partially gets through now, but a few follow-up blows miss or are blocked. Paul throws the jab and a right hand behind it connects to Silva's body. Paul keeps jabbing and partially connects to the body. Silva finally throws a punch, an overhand left, but Paul blocks it. Paul's solid jab keeps pumping, and it keeps Silva at bay. They tie up with 10 seconds left, and the round ends soon after. An easy 10-9 Paul.

Round 2

Paul starts the round jabbing again, and Silva is out of range. Silva advances for the first time, but Paul moves well on the outside and avoids any aggression. Silva throws a big left cross but Paul dodges and ties up the Brazilian. Silva comes forward again and this time a left hand partially lands. He comes forward again and scores with an uppercut. Now Paul returns fire with a series of jabs and a right cross, mostly blocked. Both men tie up and the crowds comes alive, cheering lustily. Silva is dancing along the outside of the ring now, drawing appreciative cheers from the fans. Both Paul and Silva miss a series of cautious punches. A huge Paul right hand slightly touches Silva, but the Spider avoids the worst of it. Silva gets really low now, show-boating for the crowd, and avoids Paul's jabs, though he lands little of his own. A Silva right hook is blcoked on Paul's gloves. Silva comes forward with a hook, but Paul blocks and ties him up. Paul lands a nice right cross as the round winds down. Paul lands two small jabs as the round expires. This one was close, but still 10-9 Paul.

Round 3

Both men now begin the stanza jabbing, though neither lands much. Silva partially lands a left hand and then follows up with another one before Paul ties him up. Silva tags Paul with a lead jab. Silva has Paul against the ropes and tags him twice. Paul gets off and lands a 1-2 of his own. Silva returns fire with a couple of left hooks to the body. Silva then lands his best shot of the fight, a nice left hook upstairs. Silva is keeping close with Paul now and giving him little room to strike. Paul then lands a nice right cross against Silva, then blasts him with a left hook to the face! Silva wears it well, however. This is another close round as a minute is left, and the action slows down. Paul lands a nice jab but Silva throws a barrage of punches, most blocked, but a few getting partially through. Paul throws a right haymaker to knock out Silva, but it misses. Paul lands a jab, but Silva retaliates with a hook, uppercut, then another hook to the body. A close round, but this time it's 10-9 Silva.

Round 4

Paul doesn't begin the round with jabs. However, he fires off a 1-2-1 to the body and it partially lands. Both men trade jabs, with Silva getting the better of it. Paul has definitely slowed down, as Silva is bleeding but dancing around the ring. Paul snaps out a couple of jabs, the second one touching Silva. Silva's own jab misses. Paul now lands with a straight right to the body. Paul lands a nice short right hook, but Silva tags him back with an uppercut. Silva has Paul against the ropes but is able to do little with it as Paul moves to the side. Paul misses an uppercut but connects on a big left hook. Paul then lands with another hook. Silva reaches with a left cross to the body but Paul evades. Paul misses with a wild left hook. Silva is unable to do anything as Paul is against the ropes, but then connects with a couple of uppercuts and a hook to the body to end the round. It's not enough to steal the round, though. 10-9 Paul.

Round 5

Paul begins jabbing again, but he is well out of range. Paul unloads with power punches, and while Silva covers his head, two big blows to the body get through. Paul is sticking and moving, and Silva tries to catch him but can't. They trade jabs against the ropes but a big left hook by Silva misses. They get to the center and now Silva lands a few nice hooks. Silva gets Paul against the ropes and lands another arced left hand. Paul eats a big uppercut as he tries to clinch. Finally Paul gets out, but misses a series of jabs followed by a cross. Silva keeps scoring nicely with the uppercut. Paul is noticeably slowed now. He throws a few ineffectual jabs. Silva misses one of his own. Silva blocks yet another Paul jab as he gets him against the ropes and scores with left hook to the body and a right uppercut soon after. As the round ends, Silva scores with a left cross. This one was easily won by the Brazilian. 10-9 Silva.

Round 6

Paul jabs to begin the stanza, but Silva has no problem avoiding them. Paul does land a straight right to the chest, though. Silva is being very passive to begin the round. They tie up and then the ref warns them to keep it clean. Paul keeps pumping the jab, but to little effect. He misses with a right cross to the head and then hits nothing but air on a left hook upstairs. However, Silva isn't taking advantage, throwing virtually nothing himself. Silva is dancing on the outside now, but that doesn't translate into throwing meaningful blows himself. Finally Paul throws a combination and connects with a straight right upstairs, snapping Silva's head back. Silva tries to get revenge, but gets tied up. Silva comes foward with blows, but they're blocked. Both men now dig with uppercuts to the body in close, and both partially lands. Paul now scores with a series of jabs, but Silva returns fire with a few hooks to the head. They then trade more blows upstairs. Silva made it closer near the end, but just didn't do enough for the first two and a half minutes. 10-9 Paul.

Round 7

Paul begins with a solid jab, but Silva blocks it. Both men have slowed down considerably now. Paul tries a few more jabs and Silva evades easily. However, he isn't throwing himself. ANother Paul jab touches Silva, though little more. Paul jabs more and then partially connects with a right to the body. Silva misses a bomb of a left hand. Paul throws a combination and hits Silva flush with the right to the head as the crowd cheers. Silva tries for more close range combat, but misses a short overhand left. Paul scores to the body and Silva's attempts to get it back are futile. Silva goes for an uppercut but Paul ducks underneath. Paul scores with a jab. Paul scores with a right cross but then silva lands several close-range punches, his first meaningful connects of the round, with less than 30 seconds left. The round ends with Paul pumping the jab and then blocking a Silva left hook. 10-9 Paul.

Round 8

It's the final round and Silva needs a knockout for me. Silva tries some showboating, but gets hit with a jab by Paul. However, Silva understands he needs to do a lot and begins a series of uppercuts at close range. However, he is too reckless and Paul catches him with a right cross, putting Anderson Silva on his seat! A knockdown! Silva easily beats the count, but Paul senses blood in the water now, throwing a series of 1-2s, many partially landing. Silva finally gets some respect when he lands a left hook. Paul lands a jab to the body and then evades Silva's suddenly very tired attempts to walk him down. Silva comes forward and eats a jab. BOth men are trading hooks at close range and Silva lands a big straight right! The Brazilian is a warrior until the very end! They seperate with a little more than 45 seconds left. Paul throws a few tired jabs and they tie up again. There is little action until the final 10 second clapper, with Paul landing a left hook to the head and Silva throwing punches as Paul is against the ropes, most of them blocked. A fun fight. I have it convincingly for the cringe Youtuber over possibly the greatest mixed martial artist to ever live. 10-8 Paul (78-73 Paul)
