Invicta FC 4 Update: Bantamweights Leslie Smith, Raquel Pennington Added to Main Card

A bantamweight duel between Leslie Smith and Raquel Pennington has been added to the main card of Invicta Fighting Championships 4.

The 12-bout card goes down on Jan. 5 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan., and features a 115-pound title tilt between undefeated Brazilian Claudia Gadelha and Team Oyama representative Carla Esparza. In the co-main event, submission specialist Shayna Baszler locks horns with former Strikeforce talent Alexis Davis at 135 pounds.

After battling to a draw with Kaitlin Young at Invicta’s inaugural event, Smith settled the score with the Minnesota native at Invicta FC 3, stopping Young with punches 2:13 into the second round of their rematch. “The Peacemaker” has finished three of her four career triumphs by way of technical knockout.

Pennington, meanwhile, is 1-1 in two appearances under the Invicta FC banner. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native earned a unanimous decision over Sarah Moras in July before falling to Cat Zingano via rear-naked choke at Invicta FC 3.

“Leslie and Raquel have both proven to be ferocious and determined competitors in the Invicta FC cage, so we are excited to be able to match them up against each other and create what should be a barnburner of a fight,” Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp stated in a release.
