Aspen Ladd vs. Ana Carolina Vidal

Round 1

Aspen Ladd is making her professional mixed martial arts debut just like her opponent Ana Carolina Vidal. Both fighters come out guns blazing, landing their own shot before Vidal trips Ladd and winds up on top. After a moment, Ladd sweeps and gains mount. Vida is doing her best to hold onto the arms of Ladd, avoiding the elbows. Ladd drops a thudding elbow, after a bit of wrist fighting, the referee inexcusably stands the fighters up. They come right back at each other and again Ladd takes the fight to the mat. Ladd lands a shot the eye that opens up her foe, meanwhile Vidal is seeking the leg lock. Ladd stands up, then re-enters the guard and continues her punching assault. Now Ladd turns Vidal over and begins unleashing unanswered shots to the head that referee Mike Bell warrants a stoppage.

Both women trading punches early on. Montenegro kicks and then shoots for a takedown but only manages to press against the cage. Now Montenegro opens up with more knees against the outskirts of the enclosure but they are being blocked. The action has slowed, both competitors entangled. In the final 10 seconds, Montenegro sits down on a guillotine choke, but the round expires. 10-9 Van Buren.

Round 2

Van Buren opens the second round by slowing the pace along the cage. When they separate, Montenegro is showing a cut from the eye. She grabs onto Van Buren and opens up with knees. The fighter’s trade spots multiple times, Montenegro shoots again, but is unable to get the fight onto the canvas. After what seems like an eternity, they reach the center of the cage. Montenegro ups the pressure a bit, changes levels and gets Van Buren to the floor. Van Buren creatively hurls Montenegro over and latches on for a head and arm choke. Then she lets go and attempts an armbar, but the round ends. 10-9 Montenegro.

Round 3

The first fight of the evening to leave the opening frame now enters the third and final round. Montenegro scores a takedown, which Van Buren responds to by seeking the kimura lock. Montenegro escapes the hold and opens a flurry of elbows to the head of her opponent. Van Buren weathers the storm and rises to her feet. The fight stall against the cage, Montenegro nailing the thighs of Van Buren with knees. They tussle for position and eventually Van Buren changes levels to grind her way out, but is unsuccessful. Bennett comes right at Rueda with a flurry of right and left punches, the fight moves around the cage before drawing to an end. Closely contested round. 10-9 Bennett.

Round 2

Leg kick from Rueda gets checked by Bennett. Not much action presently, both fighters look hesitant to throw. Rueda comes inside for a takedown attempt, but it’s stuffed. The fight winds up along the cage and reaches a stalemate, so they both circle out and reset in the center of the cage. Those in attendance are growing a bit restless with the lack of action presently, but we are witnessing a technical battle. The fight remains even, have to side with Bennett again because she controlled the pace against the steel. 10-9 Bennett.

The two fighters come right back at each other to open the second round. Pinpoint punches from Grasso are connecting at every opportunity, busting up the face of Inoue. Red from Inoue’s face is blending in well with the red rash guard she is wearing. To Inoue’s credit, she is not backing down. Trying to stay on the inside and strike first with her quick punches.
