A planned heavyweight showdown between Shane del Rosario and Carlos Augusto Filho has been pulled from UFC 168, the promotion yesterday announced.

Both men suffered injuries in the lead-up to the contest, which was expected to take place Dec. 28 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

UFC 168 airs live on pay-per-view and is headlined by a middleweight title rematch between reigning champion Chris Weidman and former 185-pound ace Anderson Silva. The event will also showcase a women’s bantamweight title rematch pitting Ronda Rousey against Miesha Tate.

Del Rosario, 30, has not competed since December 2012, when he was knocked out by Pat Barry at “The Ultimate Fighter 16” finale. The setback marked the Strikeforce veteran’s second consecutive defeat, as he was also stopped by Stipe Miocic at UFC 146. Prior to those losses, del Rosario had been perfect as a pro, winning his first 11 bouts by either knockout or submission.

Better known as “Guto Inocente,” Filho has not fought since May of last year, when he outpointed Virgil Zwicker in a one-sided, unanimous decision under the Strikeforce banner. Prior to that triumph, the 27-year-old won three straight bouts in his home country of Brazil, including a pair of stoppages within the Shooto Brazil organization.
