Two bouts for a yet-to-be announced UFC event in January are being put together. Both a lightweight clash between Melvin Guillard and Yves Edwards and a welterweight bout between Charlie Brenneman and Amilcar Alves are being targeted for what may turn out to be a UFC “Fight for the Troops” event on Jan. 22.

Thursday evening, Guillard announced via his Twitter account that the fight would take place at Fort Hood. The news was first reported by MMAjunkie.com Thursday, and both bouts were today confirmed by Sherdog. Though the participants have been given the green light, the event's location, and whether it will be a “Fight for the Troops” event is still under speculation.

Guillard, who recently started training with Greg Jackson in New Mexico, is fresh off a split decision victory over hard-hitting Jeremy Stephens at UFC 119 in September. A contestant on “The Ultimate Fighter 2,” Guillard made his official promotional debut at the season finale in 2005, cutting Marcus Davis and earning a second-round TKO. Since that time, “The Young Assassin” has had a successful career inside the Octagon, notching victories over Gabe Ruediger, Dennis Siver and Gleison Tibau, respectively. He's won six of his last seven fights, including three straight victories in 2010. Guillard tested positive for cocaine following a loss to former title challenger Joe Stevenson at UFC Fight Night in 2007.

Long considered to be among the most talented fighters in the lightweight division, Edwards has a UFC career that dates all the way back to 2001, when he was defeated by Matt Serra via majority decision at UFC 33. Edwards has fought a who's-who of the sport, notching wins over the likes of Hermes Franca [twice] and former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson. The native Bahamian has 56 career fights to his credit and holds more than three-fourths of his victories by either knockout or submission. The American Top Team product has won five of his last six contests, most recently earning a unanimous decision victory over John Gunderson at UFC Fight Night in September.

Brenneman trains alongside brothers Dan and Jim Miller at AMA Fight Club in New Jersey. “The Spaniard” is 1-1 in UFC competition, and is coming off a TKO loss to Johnny Hendricks at UFC 117 in August. A former collegiate wrestler, Brenneman started his career hot, winning his first five bouts before tasting defeat. After his first loss, he ran off six more victories before succumbing to Hendricks.

A black belt in both Brazilian jiu-jitsu and judo, Alves trains at team Nova Uniao with WEC featherweight champion Jose Aldo. The winner of eight straight bouts in Brazil, Alves made his American and promotional debut at UFC 118 in August, falling to a Mike Pierce armbar in the third round.
