Gray Maynard Returns to Lightweight, Meets Nik Lentz at UFC 229 in Las Vegas

Gray Maynard will return to the division where he challenged for championship gold when he meets Nik Lentz in a lightweight affair at UFC 229 in Las Vegas on Oct. 6.

The promotion confirmed the pairing to the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Monday. UFC 229 takes place at T-Mobile Arena and is headlined by a lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.

Maynard went 2-1 in three featherweight appearances in the Octagon, earning triumphs over Teruto Ishihara and Fernando Bruno while falling to Ryan Hall. Prior to that move, “The Bully” had lost four bouts in a row at 155 pounds.

Lentz, meanwhile, came up short in his first appearance of 2018, as he was outpointed by David Teymur at UFC Fight Night 131 on June 1. “The Carny” had won three of his previous four promotional appearances before that setback.
