Georges St. Pierre-Johny Hendricks Welterweight Title Bout In Works for November

It appears Johny Hendricks will finally receive his crack at the UFC welterweight title.

UFC President Dana White stated Thursday during a UFC 161 media scrum that Hendricks will likely challenge reigning champion Georges St. Pierre in November. The 170-pound standouts are expected to do battle in Las Vegas, though the exact date and event number have not been announced.

St. Pierre, 32, has long been considered one of the sport’s finest pound-for-pound talents. The Quebec native has won 11 straight fights, returning from a torn ACL this past November to defend his title against interim champion Carlos Condit, outpointing “The Natural Born Killer” at UFC 154. “Rush” next competed on March 16, defeating former Strikeforce king Nick Diaz via unanimous decision in the UFC 158 headliner.

Hendricks, 29, has been bested just once as a pro, suffering a unanimous decision defeat to Rick Story in 2010. Since that setback, “Bigg Rigg” has gone 6-0, knocking out the likes of Jon Fitch and Martin Kampmann while edging Josh Koscheck and Mike Pierce in split decisions. Like St. Pierre, Hendricks was also last seen at UFC 158, where he took a unanimous verdict from Condit in the co-main event.
