A middleweight clash pitting Gegard Mousasi against Mark Munoz will headline the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s return to Germany.
The promotion announced the matchup on Thursday. The Fight Night event, which marks the UFC’s first trip to Germany since UFC 122 in November 2010, will take place at the O2 World Berlin on May 31. That same day, another UFC Fight Night card will go down in Brazil.
After defeating Ilir Latifi at 205 pounds in his Octagon debut, Mousasi lost a five-round verdict to Lyoto Machida at middleweight on Feb. 15. A former Dream and Strikeforce champion, Mousasi owns notable triumphs over the likes of Renato Sobral, Mark Hunt, Ronaldo Souza, Melvin Manhoef and Hector Lombard during his 40-bout professional career.
Munoz also fell victim to Machida in his most recent outing, losing via first-round knockout to “The Dragon” this past October. The 36-year-old “Filipino Wrecking Machine” is 8-3 in the UFC overall, including triumphs against Aaron Simpson, Demian Maia, Chris Leben and Tim Boetsch.
