Gastelum-Masvidal, Sanchez-Held Set for UFC Fight Night in Mexico City on Nov. 5

A pair of intriguing matchups have been booked for the UFC’s Nov. 5 trip to Mexico City, as Kelvin Gastelum will face Jorge Masvidal at welterweight, while Diego Sanchez will welcome Marcin Held to the Octagon at lightweight.

The Las Vegas-based promotion announced the bouts on Wednesday. UFC Fight Night Mexico City takes place at Mexico City Arena and is headlined by a pivotal lightweight showdown between Tony Ferguson and former titlist Rafael dos Anjos. The evening’s main card will air on Fox Sports 1.

The winner of Season 17 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Gastelum has alternated wins and losses in his last four outings. Most recently, the Yuma, Ariz., native outpointed former welterweight king Johny Hendricks at UFC 200 on July 9.

Masvidal ended a two-fight skid in his last outing, as he captured a unanimous decision against Ross Pearson at UFC 201. “Gamebred” is 7-4 with the Las Vegas-based promotion overall.

Sanchez suffered the first true KO/TKO loss of his career at UFC 200, falling to Joe Lauzon 1:26 into the opening round of their lightweight encounter. The “TUF 1” winner has won just three of his eight UFC bouts since 2012, and that includes controversial triumphs over Takanori Gomi and Pearson.

A former Bellator MMA 155-pound title challenger, Held is one of the promotion’s newest signings. The Polish submission specialist went 11-2 in Bellator and is 22-4 as a pro overall. Twelve of his victories have come by way of tapout.
