Galvao to Feature in Bellator Season 6 Bantamweight Tournament

Five weight classes have now been confirmed for Bellator Fighting Championships’ upcoming sixth season, as Sherdog.com learned Tuesday from a source close to the promotion that eight bantamweights will do battle in Season 6 to decide the company’s next title challenger.
Marcos Galvao is the first confirmed participant for the upcoming 135-pound field.
In his April Bellator debut, Galvao suffered a controversial unanimous decision defeat to featherweight champ Joe Warren. However, “Loro” rebounded from the loss by edging former WEC champion Chase Beebe in the Season 5 bantamweight tournament quarterfinals.
October’s semifinal round provided Galvao with another stiff test, as the Brazilian battled heavy-handed American Top Team product Alexis Vila for three rounds before finding himself on the short end of a split decision.
Eight-man tournaments in the featherweight, lightweight, welterweight and middleweight divisions are also slated to take place during Bellator’s sixth season, which is expected to premiere in March on MTV2. Bellator recently completed its fifth season, which featured tournaments in the bantamweight, welterweight, middleweight and heavyweight divisions. The 135-pound draw was conquered by young gun Eduardo Dantas, who will challenge champion Zach Makovsky for the bantamweight title during the upcoming season.
