GSP-Koscheck Official for UFC 124

The UFC announced today via press release that the rumored welterweight title fight between Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck will go down at UFC 124 on Dec. 11 at the Bell Center in Montreal.

Opposing coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter” season 12, the pair's upcoming fight will be a rematch of their 2007 bout, in which St. Pierre repeatedly took down the four-time All-American wrestler en route to a unanimous decision victory.

St. Pierre is a two-time welterweight champion and hasn't lost since 2007, when he was knocked out by heavy underdog Matt Serra. Since losing his the title to Serra, “Rush” has won seven straight bouts, registering wins over a who's who of the division, including the aforementioned victory over Koscheck. St. Pierre returned home to Montreal in 2008, avenging his loss to Serra and regaining his title at UFC 83. Splitting time training between Tristar Gym and Jackson's Submission Fighting, St. Pierre's first title win came at the expense of hall of famer Matt Hughes at UFC 65 in 2006. That victory came at the tail end of a six fight winning streak following a 2004 loss to Hughes in the French Canadian's first crack at the title. St. Pierre's most recently got his hand raised at UFC 111 in March, as he battered Englishman Dan Hardy for five rounds and earned a unanimous decision. That win marked St. Pierre's fourth consecutive defense of the belt.

An American Kickboxing Academy standout, Koscheck is a former NCAA national wrestling champion. Koscheck started his career with the UFC as a contestant on season one of “The Ultimate Fighter.” Though he did not win the competition, Koscheck went on to win seven of his first eight fights in the UFC, notching wins over Pete Spratt, Dave Menne and avenging his unofficial “TUF” semifinal loss to Diego Sanchez before running into St. Pierre for the first time. Since that loss, the 32-year-old won six of his next eight fights, including a brutal knockout of Japanese star Yoshiyuki Yoshida and a unanimous decision victory over heavy-handed Brit Paul Daley. The latter fight, marred in controversy after Daley landed a sucker punch well after the bell, earned Koscheck his upcoming shot at St. Pierre's title.

Also on the card will be a welterweight showdown between former title contender Thiago Alves and John “Doomsday” Howard and a lightweight bout featuring Dustin Hazelett vs. Mark Bocek.
