Unable to reach a consensus, Ngannou vacated the belt and is now signed with the PFL under an agreement that has seemingly met his demands.
In a recent appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, “The Predator” explained how and why the PFL's offer was the most attractive to him as a free agent.
As per Ngannou, once he was a free agent, PFL CEO Pete Murray met with him and sent over a proposal soon after.
“A couple of days after, he made a proposal. I mean, I didn't even ask for anything but when he make a proposal, I look at the structure of that proposal... Everything was being taken in [to] consideration...The way that they structure it, I was already happy, I'm like, ‘I think this guy is trying to make me happy.’”
When asked if the PFL contract was more enticing than other offers received due to the ability to take on boxing bouts, Ngannou confirmed. The Cameroonian seemed especially happy about the “independent” nature of the contract and the many perks that came along with it, including a seat on the PFL’s Global advisory board alongside former three-time UFC champion Randy Couture.
